Where I'm from is irrelevant to the question. Are you, or are you not claiming that non-US citizens do not have the right to discuss Ebola on this forum?

    Hey Nate,

What are your thoughts on Ebola and how the AU gov't is handling things. I is different from the US response and do you agree with what your gov't is doing to protect its citizens?

Just keep the subject Ebola, which is the title of the thread---- not guns, chips sodas ect...

Enjoy the thread and discussion. Good to see you back, I remember you posting about you leaving for good? Good to see you back mate!

I'm disgusted at Australia's response. We aren't even prepared to send medics into the effected areas to help, due the possibility of Australians contracting the virus.

I agree that mandatory isolation should be enforced upon those returning from effected areas, & I absolutely admire & congratulate the US for the amount of effort & finances it's thrown at this issue.

I also strongly agree with both Philosopher & Rose in regards to consistency.

Australian ban on travel from West Africa

Australia imposes visa ban over Ebola

(CNN) - In the fight against Ebola, Australia has said: No thanks.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison announced "strong controls" on arrivals from West African countries affected by cases of the deadly disease.

Telling Australia's parliament during a question time session Monday that his ministry was currently "not processing any application from these (Ebola) affected countries," he said that the government was also suspending its humanitarian program.

He added that holders of permanent Australian visas based in these countries would be subject to a mandatory, three-week quarantine process prior to their departure. Visitors approved to travel to Australia will also face further screening and followup checks upon arrival.

The announcement came as a "surprise," the Australian Medical Association (AMA) president Brian Owler told CNN, who said that the chance of the disease entering the country through a migrant from the region was very low.

"It's not necessarily a very well-focused decision. The bigger picture needs to be on our preparedness at home but more importantly our involvement in West Africa itself, putting doctors and nurses and other logistical elements in place and trying to combat the crisis there."

He added that the government had sought the advice of "very few people," and had excluded the AMA.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said: "I not always agree with the Australian Medical Association, but I take them seriously and I think that the AMA invariably has the national interest at heart."

I got it Nathan, thanks for answering and giving an opinion, it is very well respected by me and your thoughts and responses are always encouraged

Just as you are disgusted with your Gov'ts response many are disgusted with ours (USA). because as it has played out we were not prepared.

Glad for your opinion and input.

No hard feelings, healthy debate is what we are looking for, just trying not to bring guns, chips, sodas into an important world wide conversation.

    Regards.

I'll just add my two cents, for what it's worth.
Ebola is a deadly disease and this topic is for discussion about it.
Doesn't matter where you're from, it could come to you.

Why others chose to try to make it about other issues, especially political ones is beyond me.
Why hijack a thread meant to keep us all informed??
Nathan, it really I'd good to see you posting again, for however long it lasts. I understand your reasons for taking a leave of absence, you're angry that Intrepid is gone. You guys were close. No one is responsible for her being gone except herself.

It seems like BD and I and a handful of others are taking this thread seriously. Others are using it as a way to incite controversy. I always that that behavior was beneath you.

Let's please keep this thread on topic. We never know what news tomorrow will bring.

I was rather enjoying reading this thread until it started going downhill.

Is there any reason for name calling? Ignorant? Obtuse? Just because person A doesn't hold the same opinion as person B, that doesn't make person A ignorant.

And, as for staying on topic, Intrepid and her absence from this forum have absolutely nothing to do with Ebola.

Although the posts here have been interesting, I don't really depend on a Meniere's Disease discussion forum to keep me informed about Ebola. I can watch the news 24 hours a day if I wanted to and then there is the World Wide Web.

The nurse who was quarantined and is now threatening to sue is being an ass.

What's bothering me now about this is USA govt said over and over we must treat the disease in WA, now I hear they are bringing non USA ebola patients to the USA to be treated. I don't mind that as long as they take the proper precautions and if it is going to save lives, that's good,
BUT why were they hammering us about the disease must be treated in WA, in order to contain and get rid of it, when partial travel bans were being discussed. They keep contradicting themselves.

it seems like they are doing and saying things on the fly, which I think is a big part why many people are so anxious about it all.

    Vicki,
I think you're right them saying things on the fly. It's not as prominently discussed on the news today as it was.
I did hear that more states have adopted the mandatory quarantine for travelers coming in from infected areas.
It's strange that for a few days they were interrupting other shows with news updates on Ebola and today you don't hear much at all.
It's good that the 5 year has been transferred and doesn't have the disease.

This whole theory of people self isolating is ridiculous!

The US Army will quarantine troops returning from West Africa for 21 days. interesting how the white house and pentagon are not in agreement on a mandated quarantine.

I also saw an interview with a Dr/Director of a top hospital in NYC who listed the dangers and cons of treating non US ebola patients ib the USA. He made a lot of sense and he said Drs and Nurses are fearful of this. He feels it is a mistake and can have disastrous results.

I hope our govt thinks this through carefully before medavaccing these people into the country.
