Yep, If you were a doctor or nurse or nurses aid or even the custodian would you want a floor full of Ebola patients? Can you imagine being a single parent nurse with 2 or 3 kids at home and going into work one day and your assigned several Ebola patients. Not worth the risks to you or your kids when all you've had is a 30 minute training session on Ebola. ---- nurses will simply call out sick and walk off the floors. It speaks volumes that No other industrialized countries are offering help and safe haven for Ebola. In fact it is quite the opposite they are saying loud and clear NO WAy we do not want that on our shores and in our hospitals. Look no further than the Australian PM's response. They and many other countries are not even sending Dr's or Nurses to WA.
During the new cast where I heard the interview they read the unclassified note and in it it stated that Germany is offering to take in ebola patients and that's why our administration is considering it to set an example. But I am sure it is more than considering from what I hear plans are already in place for medevaccing them here. I wish I could find the transcript of what the NYC Hospital director said but one point was there are only 3 hospitals equipped for this in the USA if it occurs. I think he was director of NYU Hosiptal.
I'm glad that they are looking after the Armed Forces, that's something anyway. I would imagine that if its NYU in NY, Cuomo would say no, but who knows. It will all be made clear soon, I'm sure. BD, as I said earlier, the college where my daughter attends has reassured students that all hospital trips will be suspended if even one case shows up. I happy about that. Vicki, I thought I heard that University Hospital in Newark was a hospital with an Ebola patient but I could be wrong. I can't remember if the Texas patients were treated there or sent somewhere else. This really is a very confusing situation. I'm glad we have a place to talk about it and compare opinions. You guys are the best!
NYU was not one of the hospitals he listed of the 3 that are equipped to handle medevac ebola patients, in fact don't think any of the 3 are in NY. His concern was that since only 3 hospitals can deal with this thee will be an overflow of patients and they were will sent to hospitals not well equipped for it.
Nurse released from University Hospital in Newark is told to self quarantine. She has vehemently protested. Gov. Christie said that this is why voluntary quarantine won't work.
You always have a fever, but of a different kind! This is your thread,,do you mind if we occasionally go off topic?
Have at it, just not the gov't control stuff with chips and sodas. A good time should be had by all! And yes, I do tend to run a little hot and get over heated from time to time as you know
this woman is unbelievable, now she's complaining and not following home quarantine http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/10/29/maine-officials-threaten-to-order-returning-ebola-nurse-to-follow-quarantine/ Maine health officials said Tuesday that they are prepared to go to court to force nurse Kaci Hickox to comply with the state's "voluntary" 21-day quarantine period for health care workers who have treated Ebola patients, as the nurse vows to defy the state. Hickox, on Wednesday, told NBC's "Today" that she doesn't "plan on sticking to the guidelines" and is "appalled" by the home quarantine policies "forced" on her.
oh geeez Ebola doctor ‘lied’ about NYC travels The city’s first Ebola patient initially lied to authorities about his travels around the city following his return from treating disease victims in Africa, law-enforcement sources said. Dr. Craig Spencer at first told officials that he isolated himself in his Harlem apartment — and didn’t admit he rode the subways, dined out and went bowling until cops looked at his MetroCard the sources said. “He told the authorities that he self-quarantined. Detectives then reviewed his credit-card statement and MetroCard and found that he went over here, over there, up and down and all around,” a source said. http://nypost.com/2014/10/29/ebola-doctor-lied-about-his-nyc-travels-police/
Simple new test finds Ebola in 15 minutes, could be ‘game changer’ http://news.yahoo.com/simple-new-test-finds-ebola-in-15-minutes--could-be--gamechanger--200026694.html
I saw that today as well Vicki. Pretty awesome. I also heard they had an Ebola vaccine 10 years ago but pulled it because the virus/target audience so to speak was not large enough to make it profitable to produce and sell. Now they are ready to make the commitment as each outbreak seems to get worse and more and more attention is being given to the disease. When was Ebola first discovered? In the 70's? Somebody will know and come along to let us know. I believe it was a young girl who first contracted it and gave it a name. PS: that nurse is just looking for attention and a lawsuit and the doctor should loose his medical license as far as I am concerned by his actions and lying to authorities and putting innocent people at risk.
I agree with you on both counts pertaining to the Dr and nurse, totally disgraceful. I might be mistaken but aren't there different strains of ebola? I think I read that but I could be wrong. If that's correct its possible the vaccine made 10 years ago may not be protecting against the present strain. But yeah profits come before health
I flipped out when I heard about the Dr.mhe should lose his license to practice.mhe should be ashamed of himself!
Nurse Kaci Hickox defies Ebola quarantine this morning by going for a bike ride with her boyfriend in Maine
She very defiant. I heard her on a rant on the news. I bet she'd be singing a totally different tune if she had contracted it and was treated upon arrival and was cured. Let's all just pray she stii doesn't come up with symptoms putting other innocent people at risk.
I've read she was turned down for doctors w/o borders initially then started working for the CDC and her info about her connection with the CDC was on her linkedin profile but that info has been removed and no cached copy of it on google. CDC is against quarantines. Something smells political here.
From what I've seen, quarantines are being mandated by each individual state. I'm trying to keep the politics out of it aside from the quotes I've seen regarding Ebola. The CDC, who knows what the heck they're doing. The only thing apparent is what they aren't doing.
the article I read about the above made a point of suggesting it being a political move given her CDC affiliation and the timing of it.
