I've been having a problem where one of my eyes suddenly blurs & goes out of focus. I usually feel off balance for a few minutes & end with a headache. I think it is the muscles in my eyes. I have had eyes checked & nothing was ever mentioned about the muscles. This a.m. I felt well when I got out of bed. I went to my keyboard (volume low) & read over a new piece of music. When I stood up I was totally off balance, felt like I would pass out. Both sides of my face feels full & slightly numb. I have bilateral MM. That episode was 4 hours ago & I still feel weird and if I look down or move quickly I will fall. Anyone experience this? Do you think this is eye muscles or Meniere's? thanks.
verti, how frightening, I am sorry to hear this. I never had anything like that happen to me. I would suggest going to a neurologist to get checked out to make sure it is nothing serious. Tingling and numb can be a symptom of vestibular migraines, but to be safe a doctor should check you out. IMO.
I can tell you that when I'm in the midst of and after an attack my eyes are very sensitive to light. I often wear sunglasses in the house. Computer screens are the worst for me then. Funny how I don't hear well but during those times I need everything very low. I even keep the tv and radio off all day because of that. I would still get it checked out. When was the last time you saw an Eye Dr.?
It's only been a few months since I saw eye dr. I have had these same symptoms many times since I have had MM but doctors don't seem to know what is causing them. My neurologist moved so I don't have a neuro. As a matter of fact we don't have any decent neurologist in my area. Thanks for all replies.
I initially read in your original post you saw an eye doctor recently, what's concerning is the faint feeling and numbness and tingling. Can you go to an neurologist in another town? If everything else is ruled out I would say it sounds like vestibular migraines aka silent migraines aka MAV. blurry vision, numbness and tingling, prolong dizziness etc all are Migraine or MAV symptoms, but you need to make sure its nothing more serious. I have both MM and MAV
Thanks Vicki, I keep hoping I will wake up from this nightmare. There is not really a good doctor that I know of I can go to at this time. I don't think I could get in a moving car. I can't walk through the house without falling into the walls.
I'm so sorry to hear this, these disease suck the life out of people. what you may want to do is read the link in my signature about MAV and avoid all migraine food triggers and see if that helps calm down your symptoms.
also avoid smells like fragrances not just perfumes and cologne but fabric softeners, cleaning products etc etc, bright lights, pc and tv monitors, loud noises and see if that along with food trigger avoidance helps.
I have MAV, and when I read your initial post, I thought of that, too. It was my otolaryngologist (ENT doctor) who diagnosed me. For me a major trigger is eyestrain, and it started with looking at the computer. Getting new glasses, one pair for regular use and one just for the computer, made a huge difference for me. I hope you find something that helps, soon. This stuff is so miserable, but keep hope, there are solutions. They can be tough to discern, especially when dizzy, but you find the right thing and it makes a huge difference. Have you tried a cane or walking stick? Just giving you brain more data about where your body is in space can really help with getting around the house.
thanks so much for your help. I've tried everything I've heard of for 30 years & nothing really helps migraines much. I avoid so many foods that I don't have many things left I can eat. I also have MCS as well as food allergies. The things that trigger MM also trigger migraine. Today I have both & haven't felt like eating anything. I drank some peppermint tea. Good luck to you all!
I take Neurontin for migraines & seizures but it does nothing for MM symptoms. I read your info on MAV & those symptoms sound like mine. I am allergic to most meds but have found 2 I can take without serious side effect. This MM is something nothing seems to help. You've been very helpful.
acupuncture/Traditional Chinese Medicine can also be very helpful for migraines. I hope you find something that works for you and very soon.
