So here I am again asking for some feedback. Could my rapidly declining eyesight have anything to do with Menieres? A year ago I bought new glasses which worked good until about 4 months ago. Went to eye doctor and had a new exam and got new glasses based on that prescription. Now, just four months after buying new glasses, My vision is getting blurrier by the day and I'm having trouble focusing on things up close even with my new prescription. I know when I have an attack my vision gets really bad but this is all the time, not just during an attack. Any ideas? Menieres??? And that sharp pain in my ear and going down my neck behind my bad ear is weird. Still have ruptured ear drum and go back to the doctor on Monday. The hearing in my right ear sucks mostly due to the ruptured eardrum. I need a new body.
Have you talked to your family doctor or an opthamologist? Recently? I would not let this go uninvestigated. Are you diabetic?
I don't know if you are seeing a specialist or just an Optometrist, but with 'blurry vision' after only recently getting new glasses, I'd say you need to see a specialist--an Ophthalmologist! And asap! I doubt it's related to the Meniere's but you 'never know'. And--the ruptured eardrum recurring is a 'real concern' too. Hope you have gotten to a Neuro Ent by now. Best of luck to you--what you are dealing with has to be concerning! Keep us informed.
The compromised vestibular system means that we rely on our eyesight more. If we are using it more it is possible that it could wear out quicker. But I have never heard of anyone making the link between Meniere’s and eyesight issues before now.
The only eye doctor I've seen is the one at Vision Works. I'll suppose I better make an appointment with an opthamologist next week. It seems like everything is falling apart at once. I go to a otoneurlogist (is that how you say it?). I'll see him Monday. I had my daughter check my ear out yesterday to see if she thought it looked any better than a few days ago when she looked because I had some sharp pains in the ear/neck area. I have a small otoscope here at home. She said a few days ago she could still see the hole in the ear drum. Yesterday she couldn't see the hole because of all the blood blocking the view. Ugh! I'm thinking at this point that the middle and/or inner ear has gotten infected since it has been exposed due to the ruptured ear drum. If it's strange, you can guarantee I'll get it. I'll give an update after my appointment Monday. I really appreciate everyones feed back here. I know I am probably getting annoying with all my questions. Thanks for bearing with me.
Not getting annoying! That's what we are all here for--support, information and etc. Hope you get good news soon.
My eyesight doesn't seem to have gotten rapidly worse as you are describing, but eyestrain has been a major MAV trigger for me. My glasses need to be just right or else it is spin city. : (
I've got an appointment with an opthamologist . I've already used my once a year eye exam that my insurance will pay for but if I go to the ophthalmologist it counts as a doctor visit, not an eye exam so I just have to pay my regular co pay.
Definitely sounds like an ophthalmologist is the right person. I hope the appt. helps clear up (the pun was just too tempting!) what's going on.
Hey, Did you wear your glasses continuously? Because, sometimes it happens that if a person not wearing their glasses continuously, then there eye vision gets more poor than before. My mother was having vision problems, So she was advised by the doctor to wear wholesale reading glasses throughout the day. She followed the same and now her results of vision are improving. We bought reading glasses from some useful sites, as there was a wide variety of frame of reading glasses.
It sounds like you have a few doctors to see to make sure you get the proper eyewear and get the ear drum addressed. Hopefully you're feeling better soon. As far as eyesight goes, I believe it definitely has impact to Menieres. It only makes sense that if your brain is working overtime to figure out balance signals coming from a faulty ear, that faulty balance signals coming from your eyes will just exasperate the problem. Don't know if you're a candidate for Lasik, but you may want to investigate. I had the progressive bifocals for five years and I often had to move my head around to ensure I was viewing through the correct lens. I truly believe this had impact on my feelings of disequilibrium. I had lasik done 5 weeks ago and the difference is amazing. Best of luck.
