Its been a while since I logged in. Since starting the JOH routine and Famvir about two years ago my episodes have been rare. Hurrah! Unfortunately I had a relapse a week ago and it is a real bummer. Hearing went down and the feeling of impending doom set in. I pulled my hearing aids out of the drawer and can communicate some. I saw my local OTO yesterday and he had me do sterod injections to the inner ear. Anyway, he was shocked that I am still on Famvir twice daily since going to LA and seeing Dr. Dereberry in June of 2013. He suggested I contact her and see if long term use is okay. I will do so but am wondering if others have been on Famvir long term. I have had no issues with it and feel it is really helping. I have continually used Lysine and VItamin C daily. Please share your experiences. ClarkKent
I know with acyclovir and valcyclovir we increase temporarily when we feel symptoms due to allergies, illness, fatigue, extra stress etc etc. Probably the same holds true when taking famvir. Also I have posted long term safety and efficacy of acyclovir and val for 5 -20 years and the results were both are safe for long term uses and very little resistance occurred. I would think same holds true for famvir but you can check pubmed for long term studies on famvir. Keep in mind limit or avoid foods higher in arginine to lysine ratios, eating foods with more arginine than your lysine intake will bring on an attack even on AV's and lysine.
