My life is 98% normal . The laby was with out a doubt the best thing I could have done for my menieres monster . For those of you that have tried everything and are totally confused about what to do , there is a way out if you are unilateral . The laby worked for me and countless others that no longer post here because we got our life back . I do whatever I want without restrictions , everything from golf to carnival rides. My hearing actually improved because I have less ear noise and no hyperacusis . The best advice I ever got from any of my menieres family was from a retired navy veteran . David had reached the end of his rope so he told Dr Greene { either you fix this or I will } , so DR Greene did the Laby . That was 8 years ago and today David is living a normal life in Jacksonville Fla . David will tell you as he told me DONT LET MENIERES CONTROL YOUR LIFE there is a way out . Good Luck to everyone

That's great news, thanks for sharing. Do you take anything to ensure that it doesn't spread to the other ear?

I do not take anything , but I do eat with very littie salt . I am not concerned about the disease going to the other ear because if it is going it will go anyway . If it does move to the right ear I will have a vns or laby . There are many people walking around with no balance nerves at all . I have decided not to live in fear , plus I have had 5 great years .

Hurricaneone, that's great news. I'm so happy for you. I recently had a gentamacin injection. The doctor actually suggested we just go ahead and skip to a laby, since I've already lost 70% of my bad ear balance function. I said no, let's go with the more cautious approach first. So he gave me the injection.

Anyway, it's good to know the laby didn't affect your hearing. My doc says it's 3 days in the hospital for laby. How was the recovery for you?

Pupper for me I was only in the hospital for one night and I walked out of the hospital . I actually played in golf tourney 6 weeks later. The first thing I noticed after waking was how much better I could hear . it was amazing . My biggest regret is that I did not go directly to the laby but opted for 9 gent injections . If I had it to do over I would no doubt go straight to the laby . Good luck

    Amen ^^^^^

i took the 3 kids ages 6-11 skiing in Colorado for the first time in their lives this year with the Chief. None of this would have been possible without the laby. Sister in Law is still a pain in my ass, i guess that is the one thing the laby does not take care of. lol

Glad to hear you're doing so well. I would have the laby in a heartbeat when my doctor offers it. I'm curious as to your treatment up to the laby. I had steroid injections (no help), then onto the endo shunt (about a year of relief). Next up Gent injections in October 2015. Vertigo episodes in November and December 2016. Back to Gent injections now. First injection no vertigo. Should get another injection next week. My hearing has diminished a little, but I haven't been tested this month. I believe that's my ENT's reluctance to jump to the laby. I still have serviceable hearing on my MM side. Thanks for any info that anyone has. New to the forum, but suffering for 8+ years.

Coach I went down the same path you are on as did most of my laby brothers and sisters . I will tell you without a doubt that I wish I had went to the laby after my first gent shot and not had the next eight . I waisted three years of my life . The best thing you can do is have the laby and stop the suffering . If you have tried all these things and you are still suffering then you will continue to suffer . Find a good otoneuro and tell him to fix it . Good Luck

I so agree with hurricane. My oto told me if you don't find relief after 2 gent shots most likely you won't. I did one gent shot felt OK for 8 months then wham right back with severe vertigo and drop attacks. As my laby friends often say the laby gave me my life back. I had one shot and then went right to the laby. Prior to gent I tried low sodium and the JOH light regime. I lived with mm for 12 years. I had my laby 4 years ago and am living a very active life.
