I am newly diagnosed with Meniers, I have an up coming trip that requires me to fly a long distance, Im looking for any advice, info, etc on what to expect. What effects if any will the pressure of flying have on Meniers? Is it a trigger? if so what if anything can be done to lessen the chance of an episode? Any insight from the wise would be greatly appreciated...
I don't think flying affects the Menieres in the inner ear but if you also have middle ear issues which some of us do, then I would suggest having some neosinephrine on hand to take before descent.
I fly at least once a month, the duration can be 2-9 hours, varying where I'm going. I don't have any problems flying.
I'm a pilot, with Meniere's. I never fly alone, for obvious reasons, and only go up with another fully qualified pilot. With that said, I fly 4-5 times a month, with no problem. The changing pressures experienced during climbs and descents stop at the eardrum. It does not affect the inner ear. You should be fine.
