I went to the podiatrist a few weeks ago to have an ingrown toenail surgically removed. There are two parts to such a procedure. 1. Cutting the ingrown part of the nail. 2. Killing the "roots" of the nail so it can't grow from the side.

Like many doctors, he always seems to be rushing from one patient to another. And speaks from on high. It's almost like he considers himself such a genius that he can tell in a second what the problem is, and you're wasting his time by even talking.

He tells me we have to kill the roots now. And all these nurses are standing around getting ready for the procedure. I said, "wait, didn't you do that last time? I thought this was just a follow up visit." He said no, etc. I questioned him about it a few more times. He was unmoved. Then I surrendered and dropped my head back on the headrest. I was truly deflated, because I hate having my toenails messed with. When my parents used to cut them when I was a kid, it was intensely nerve racking for me. It's almost a phobia. So...GREAT, more surgery on an already tender toenail.

Part of the reason I gave in, is that having brain fog much of the time, I thought, maybe I was confused about the first surgery.

Then a nurse that had been listening and had gone away, came back, and whispered something to him privately. Then, while keeping his eyes on his laptop screen, he says, "hmmm, apparently we did do the complete procedure the first time. Well, good, that saves us some time." He then finally gave me the dignity of eye-to-eye contact and said, "it seems they forgot to enter it into the computer properly."

I bring this up in a MM forum because when we were arguing about it earlier, I got very dizzy and had to ask a nurse for a drink of water (so I could take a Xanax to ease the dizzy). It's really remarkable how stress can trigger vertigo. Someday when I'm not fatigued I'm going to investigate the correlation.

The thing is, I'm a pretty calm guy, even when stressed. It's not like I freak out. Yet STILL, the stress causes my dizzy to act up. The effect was immediate. Just, wow. Freaky disease.

But yeah. Mannnnnn. If not for that nurse, this guy would have cut me again.

So let us raise a glass to the modest nurse vs. the know-it-all doctor. A very common workplace relationship.

Pupper, I suffer the same thing. When I am stressed face to face with a person (and especially doctors), all of my issues start; tinnitus, dizziness, sound distortion and ear aches. I have two doctors appointments this next month...help! Thank God for good nurses.

No excuse for that to happen. Check and double check should be done when a patient questions something that important. Yes, glad the nurse 'spoke up'! And yes, stress--we all can say--makes this Meniere's thing worse! Different symptoms for some but many similar ones too. We just have to 'take a deep breath', try to get some relaxing 'space' and then 'keep on keeping on'! Hope all goes well now with your foot problem.
