    Hey everyone,

I am looking at getting a gentamicin injection to help my MM symptoms (vertigo). I have bilateral MM and am looking at getting the injection in my ear that was first affected by MM back in '09. I had Endolymphatic shunt placement in '13, which helped the vertigo for a while but has not stopped it. I have researched gentamicin online and feel that this is the next step in attempting to stop the vertigo. I would like any and all opinions and/or advice regarding getting or not getting the injection please.......

    Thanks in advance :)

I'm not sure what Gentamicin does exactly-But I have had 3 Decadron shots ( steroid) directly into my eardrum and they work great - the first one I had only lasted 3 weeks - but the next two lasted for 2 - 3 months - and I felt ALMOST normal again - so much so that I forgot that I need to still eat right -( watch my sodium) - and rest..... the getting enough rest part is the hardest for me when I feel good. ( But i haven't had a vertigo attack in about 6 months now) Good Luck - I am interested to hear how it goes.

I suggest trying an antiviral first, to see if you MM is caused by an HSV. There are many topics about it on these forums and many of us including myself are vertigo free by taking an antiviral and there are studies about it in our database, particularly Dr Gaceks' publications that gives doses etc for MM
Antivirals are safe, cheap, covered by most insurances and effective for MM for many of us, not for all though but IMO its worth a try before any other treatment.

I got my first one yesterday up at UW and get my second one in the morning. It's not a horrible experience but I will tell you it burns when they inject the medicine into the eardrum for a few minutes.
