My husband has been suffering with Meniere's Disease since last August. He got a diagnosis in January 2016 and had to leave work. He was in outside sales and could no longer drive everyday, with many overnights, as well. He has been to 4 ENT's in the process of being diagnosed. One doctor did nothing to treat him, though he kept telling him he could make him well. We have a new dr. we like, but he is recommending Methotextrate. We went to a Rheumatologist today as she is the one that would be monitering the medication. He would need frequent bloodwork as there can be serious side effects to the liver and kidneys. He has been on a couple of doses of prednisone, which eased the vertigo a little, but it comes back with a vengeance when he stops. He takes a diuretic and eats a very low sodium diet. He is imbalanced many days and lately has had some 8 and 9 hour long episodes of veritgo. We continually look into options but are very limited financially as we don't have health insurance or income at this time. Methotextrate is expensive, plus the additional dr. visits and blood work add to the cost. It sounds like the side effects could be worse than the Meniere's Disease. Has anyone used it and what has been your experience? Thank you!
I tried that, along with all the dieting, etc. The only thing that worked was antivirals. I am currently symptom free with Valtrex.
I would hope they would try antivirals first for at least 2-3 months both because of the frequent success and the fact that they have so much less side effects.
I feel so sorry for your husband. I know you said that finances are a concern. Read the topic Meniett. Your can arrange monthly payments which may be less than what you are paying now. I understand it will be paid for in 13 mos. I had vertigo much like your husband, but after using the Meniett I have been so much better. Read about it from Metronics who is the mfg. Hope this info is helpful.
