Funny that the article includes a virus as one of the possible causes of vertigo yet so many family doctors do not agree. Otherwise they would prescribe antivirals more readily.
I noticed that as well. I have run across other sites that list a viral cause too. one was a hearing site I will try and find it again if I can.
It seems somewhat ironic and bizarre that Janice’s initial vertigo problem was caused by the very same drug that is the vertigo solution that is applied to many a vertigo sufferer. If that makes sense! What goes around comes around? (if you will forgive the rotational metaphor).
It is quite interesting if you google drugs that are considered probable causes of ototoxicity (ear damage caused by precscription medications), you will see most diuretics, benzo's and antidepressants all commonly prescribed for migraines, Meniere's and the anxiety/depression that can be the result of having these diseases. When I read Dr Gacek's article suggestion that people going on a trial run of AV's stop all other mdications, I set aside my Dyazide and my dizziness is far less than it had been on it. Might also be the AV's kicking in but I suspect the latter since the most intense dizzies were preceeded by a sense of blacing out when getting up in the morning which can be the result of the diuretic. Here is a link to the best list of ototoxic drugs that I've seen: https://www.ata.org/sites/ata.org/files/pdf/Ototoxic_Brochure_by_League_for_Hard_of_Hearing_2012_Jul_12.pdf Note: This PDf only mentions hearing loss and tinnitus but doing much research on this, most discuss balance issues too.
Famvir is what my dr prefers. Ayclovir and valtrex are also used. I have always used the generics of these drugs.
Here's an article, with recommendations for valacyclovir and acyclovir, starting on the bottom page 103: http://www.mm3admin.co.za/documents/docmanager/6e64f7e1-715e-4fd6-8315-424683839664/00056616.pdf
