I have heard great things about Dr. Goebel in St. Louis on this board and a MAV board I visit. So I have been trying for the last 2 months to get an appointment with him. They needed my medical records from my previous neurotologst and I was having the hardest time getting those sent over, jumping through hoops. I FINALLY got a call from Dr. Goebel's office that they received my medical records and could schedule an appointment. Its January 11, but I am also on the cancellation list and I am just so happy to finally have an appointment. I know I keep saying finally but it feels like it took forever!

My previous neurotologist doesn't believe my Bell's Palsy has anything to do with my cochlear hydrops in my left ear (I feel like there has to be a connection), he refuses to let me try antivirals because "neurotologist don't prescribe antivirals" and he says there is no way my symptoms are caused by migraine. My last few visits were "Keep doing what your doing. See you in 6 months!"

So this is why I keep saying FINALLY. I am so ready for a second opinion and a more open-minded doctor.

Great news! And in a last resort, dont forget the family doctor. Sometimes they have more diagnostic ability than the specialists whose knowledge may be an inch wide and a mile deep.

I saw Dr. Goebel years ago and had Benign positional vertigo then, and was afraid I had Meniere's already. But I didn't.
He is very well known in the Midwest and a wonderful doctor--so I'm hoping you get the care you need. Please update us and let us know if he prescribes anti-virals and if he thinks your bells Palsy is connected in any way to Meniere's. I know Migraines often go along with it. Mine are 'without pain' just the other Migraine symptoms. I had 'shingles' of the face two years prior to being hit with Meniere's. My Neuro--another very well known one here in the Midwest--says 'virus' don't cause Meniere's--so my shingles had no bearing on it and he never would prescribe anti-virals. However, my primary finally gave them a try--but they didn't help. Many here swear by them, so it's all individual I think. Good luck with your visit. Hope you get the help you need. Please keep us posted.
