I have had ringing in my ears for as long as I can remember. In fact I don't know what silence is. But it's been with me so long it has become a friend I ignore. Ah Blissful ignorance.

The only reason I am aware now, is that over a very short period of time, a few weeks only, I started feeling liquid in my Eustation tubes and a new lower ringing in my ear that echoes the people that I am talking with. I lose the lower range of my hearing in one ear but luckily I have never had Vertigo. I had what I thought were unrelated bouts of food poisoning. Three times in less than 6 months...

I have been paying attention to my body and so far here are my thoughts.

1 - It is related to my poor posture stuck at a computer all day causing structural imbalance and shoulders of rock.
2 - When I get an elbow for 30secs into the meat of my trapazoids, although it is painful and pain shoots up to my head,... the relief afterward is blissful. This simple trick can help manage the symptoms for half a day. My over the shoulder bag irritates the symptoms and I avoid it as much as possible now.
3 - I visit my Ostiopathic therapist twice a month to get into the TMJ jaw tightness and to get into those places that by myself are hard to massage and manipulate. Although I do spend some time with neck shoulder and jaw massage daily. Sometime this agrivates the symptoms but this is temporary.
4 I have custom earplugs for motorcycling and I found through experimentation that using just one earplug in the most effected ear helps make the symptoms less irritating. It keeps the ear more open feeling and stops the echo effect that I get. It saves me in loud places and i can still hear out of the other ear. (don't eat chips with an ear plug in...just don't) The ear plug can be a bit bothersome in itself but personally it is less dreadful than the manieres symptoms.

5 massage massage massage - I have found someone who can do really deep tissue massage and target the areas that are most tight. You have to be able to relax into the pain or this could be torture. Breathe. Post massage Epsom salt bath and lots of liquid. Just let your head float free in the bath... (fell asleep once.:) (reminder that tinitus is louder under water)

6 Yoga - something that makes you move and stretch and strengthen your body

7 - I just started taking Pine Bark Extract - some test showed great improvement for Meniers and I am willing to try anything once. Will let you know how that goes....but thank God in the meantime my husband knows how to find just the right spot on my traps that brings painful but blissful relief.

ps - RELAX -i spent 2 months out of the office this summer and went to just Yoga a few times a week - no massage - no ostiopath -no pine bark - . I was 80%- 90% symptom free. I had my very next episode the week I was gearing back up for work.

The first thing i was told about Meniere's was that it starts at around 50 - lasts typically for 10years and you end up partially or completely deaf. First thing i thought was that it sounds like retirement helps! The second thing I thought was how little my ear specialist actually knows about Meniere's

I know that the way I work agrivates this disease. I know i can't give it up. But I am going to listen to my body more and try not to lose my hearing.
