I have been taking acyclovir ( for a week now) which I managed to get without a prescription as my GP is an ignorant and he didn't want to listen about herpes virus as a possible cause of MD.So far no effects. Next week I have ENT appointment and the doctor will inject steroids into my inner ear. I don't know whether I should mention the self initiated treatment or should I keep it a secret knowing that most probably he will not approve of it. Does steroid injection and acyclovir exclude each other? Please help
I dont take any AV's but have the decadron shots ( about every 4 months ) and they have helped me tremendously ( not gonna lie - they aren't fun - and you will feel a little weird for 2-3 days after). I think i would probably mention that you are doing the AV's on your own and just let them know ahead of time. My Dr DID tell me he would try the AV's if I think I need them ( so far I have been managing thru rest, low sodium diet, the shots, B-12, D3 and a Minette Device) - so maybe that means that he doesn't see a conflict with the shots and the AV - he didn't say - well - if you start these you can't do this - ( Knock on wood only one attack in the past year and that was def my own fault right after the holidays running myself ragged and not watching my diet.)
I don't think they exclude each other. Personally though I would do one or the other just so that I would know which/what works or doesn't work.
