I have been suffering from MM for about 20 years. My episodes included severe vertigo, heavy pressure in my left ear and very loud ringing. These episodes would take several hours to get over. Recently I have been having a lot of very light spells. I get dizzy but not the heavy pressure and the loud ringing. These episodes go away in 10 or 15 minutes. I have about 5 or 6 per week now. Has anyone had this happen to them? My last heavy spell took place several months ago. I was wondering if I have come down with something else besides MM.

    Hi Ken,

For the 20 years has your MM been in both ears or just one?

    Hi Ken

Have you been tested for SCD, PLF, or MAV? It could be any of those things, or MM.

Have you done anything to make the vertigo go away? Any treatment? Sometimes treatments result in less severe symptoms.

    Could it be bppv? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benign_paroxysmal_positional_vertigo
Does it tend to happen when you roll over or move your head or neck?

I think what you describe is pretty normal. 20 years is a long time. Menieres symptoms often "progresses" and changes ... vertigo attacks become shorter and less violent. Some say that is progression toward "burnout" when the disease and mother nature kills off the vestibular cells. Theoretically burnout is when there is no vestibular function left....but its rarely ever achieved by clinical criteria. But often there is significant damage to the balance system over the years. That can be confirmed by objective vestibular testing which includes a long lists of tests....and they are getting better at it with new tests. Usually hearing cells are damaged first since they are more fragile. Every case is different. But I would be curious about your hearing in that ear. Hope you have a good doctor you can talk to easily and get the right treatment for your stage. Someone above asked a good question....are you unilateral? If so that is really great.

Thanks everyone. My MM is confined to my left ear only. I have not had tests for the other things suggested. I'll try that.
