Randomly stumbled across juniper berry extract here and there in researching herbal anti-virals. Searched for "juniper" on this board but returned zero results. I am wondering if anyone here has tried juniper berry extract for viral suppression properties? Here is what I have found so far, and thanks for any responses.

Taxonomy: family Cupressaceae subfamily Cupressoideae (relatives cypress, pine)
    Active component: deoxypodophyllotoxin
Other components of interest: tannins, vitamin C, flavonoids, catechins.

Uses: Gastric calming, appetite stimulant, tumor suppression, effective against uti's or renal cyst, viral inhibition, joint pain relief (topical.)

Rarity of public consumption. Very common. Juniper berry extract is commonly found in soaps, bath oils, eye shadow and lipsticks. Often used to season wild game (duck, venison for example) and as a common flavoring given its bitter properties. Used in the manufacture of bitter spirits, gin being the most common. Available as a common condiment or extract without restriction.

Contraindications: Patients who are pregnant, have renal failure or renal impairment (example: renal artery stenosis, hydronephrosis or atrophy), and/or are diabetic.
