I accidentally posted about a "low salt diet" in the Front Porch section, so I am posting over here about it now. My ENT put me on a salt-restricted diet of no more than 1500 mg of sodium per day. I have found some no salt added canned goods, but haven't found any low salt bottled salad dressings. Does anyone here know where I can find low salt bottled, canned or packaged products? Thanks.
for salad dressing you can use olive oil and vinegar. Supermarkets where I live have many low salt canned and bottled foods, I am not sure what supermarkets you have near you. A member on the forums posted a link to an online store that sells no salt pickles! I will see if I can find it on the forum archives
this is a copy of ron's post: "Heart Healthy Market is a good source for low sodium food. They even have salt-free pickles! Rather pricey, of course, like most specialty food stuff: http://healthyheartmarket.com/ "
Good luck with the low salt diet. My ENt started me on a low salt diet, diuretics and prednizone. Didn't help me at all
He didn't give many any guarantees about it working, but my feet and ankles tend to swell and I notice that when the swelling gets bad I can usually count on having an attack of vertigo. So I am hoping a low salt diet will help with the water retention.
The same thing happened to me when i got hydrops. The low salt didnt help me but when my hydrops got better, ie the hearing symptoms corrected, the swollen ankles went away. It was the darnest thing. My hearing symptoms were corrected by antiviral and allergy treatment. I think it was the allergy treatment/shots that fixed the swollen ankles. I waited a couple years to tell the allergist and she told me several other patients had told her the same thing.
This is the salad dressing I use. It's the lowest sodium one I've found that actually tastes good. http://www.annies.com/products/dressings-oils/organic-balsamic-vinaigrette-8oz
I believe I have read it is best to keep salt intake levels consistent through out the day. Meaning not to have too much salt at once even on a reduced salt diet. Salt doesn't bother me unless I over do it.
Like others have said We just make our own salad dressing. Olive oil, Balsamic vinegar, spices or spicy mustard.
Thanks for the replies. My husband told me to just make oil and vinegar dressing also. The only problem is that I don't like oil and vinegar. I like ranch and other creamy type dressings. Maybe I can figure something out.
