April of 1998, after years of dizziness and misdiagnosis, I finally had a Vestibular Neurectomy, my left ear. I awoke from the operation, and my dizziness was completely gone. My hearing was shot, and still is, but I could function, normally, just like everyone else. Since then, I retired and we moved to Utah. Everything was fine until a few weeks ago. I tried to get out of bed, and almost fell facedown on the floor. It was more a balance issue, than dizziness, but it brought back all those long buried fears. I went to the Clinic my husband drove me, and after checking me over, game me a shot of benadryl, in the butt, and meclizine hci, told me to take 2 tablets, and fluticasone propionate in each nostril. Told me to see an ENT. Went home and slept the day away, and was fairly unsteady for a good week. Here in southern utah, it was quite stormy, all week, and the pressure was 29, so I knew that was part of the problem. I made an appointment with an Otolaryngologist, in Salt Lake City, 200 miles away, along with an Audiologist to confirm my hearing loss and one other appointment, that day. Time ran out and I didn't make the Otolaryngologist appointment and had to reschedule. Well, I finally started feeling better, so didn't make a new appointment. So, this morning, it all started again, so I popped a meclizine, and slept for a couple of hours. I still fill "off", so will make another appointment with the Otolaryngologist. My fear is that the Meneires is returning, and hopefully I will find out, it is not. Anybody else here, who has bilateral, can give me advice or how you are doing, or what I should do? I'd hate to have a comeback...thanks for listening.
I am bilateral except one ear was destroyed by surgery 10 years before the hydrops. To cut to the chase, my balance and hearing in the only good ear were saved by antivirals. A lot of people here have had success with them. Do some reading and consider giving them a try.
