I was on this forum 10 years ago when I had vertigo. My vertigo lasted 6 months and went away on its own. This time I am in month 10 and just had my worst attack yesterday. I noticed the last time people got the most relief from JOH regimen and valium. People took valium to both ward off the attacks and prevent them. This time it seems to be the anti-viral meds that are providing the most relief.

My question is how many of you have an anti-anxiety medicine as part of your treatment? Do you take it everyday and not get an attack? Do you think it is preventing attacks?

    Thanks,

Many people also get relief from antivirals as you stated. I have been on them for 2 years and have been vertigo free for the 2 years. I do not take any anti anxiety meds for vertigo attacks since I do not get any, anymore so far.

As I understand it, anti anxiety drugs for vertigo are an arrest drug meant to quell your central nervous sytem by knocking you out. These are dangerous to take daily and I suspect not that useful since it is not preventive but arrestive.

Taken daily, they can negatively effect balance, are ototoxic, can cause tinitus and rebound headaches. The addictive quality of them too makes the coming off hellish and dangerous if not done with a medicaly supervised taper.

I started a/v in April of last year and have found improvement. I do have Ativan that is to be put under my tongue if an attack hits - but it is not something that is taken everyday.

Believe I have read that there are some people that take amityriptiline daily but I am not sure that valium daily would be the optimum solution.

I would try to get started on a/v - it doesn't work for everyone but with this thing that is not surprising. There does seem to be quite a larger population where it does help.

When I was having lots of vertigo my Dr prescribed Diazepam (generic valium ) It might have helped me with the vertigo, but, it Killed my ability to have climatic sex with my beautiful wife of 40 years.

Great sex vs drugged out suppression. I'll take great sex every time. I have a full bottle of that stuff but, I hope I never have to use it again.

I'm not having vertigo any more ( since November 20 ) Here's why I think I haven't been having vertigo:

My success started when I switched to valacyclovir. My fullness went away. I stopped having vertigo.

But, then I stopped taking JOH's regimen and within two weeks I was back to fullness. Still no vertigo.

I stayed with just the valacyclovir for awhile and was not getting better. Stayed full all the time and tinnitus was screaming. Almost deaf. Couldn't hear fingers rubbing next to left ear.

Two weeks ago I added back JOH's regimen and about 6 weeks ago I added 8,000 iu of vitamin D3. I also purchased the labeled "pycnogenol" from vitacost (instead of the cheaper "Pine Bark,") and I bought the Lemon Bioflavinoids from Linberg.

About two weeks ago the fullness went away and the brain fog. Wooooohooooo!!!!! tinnitus is still screaming :p But, my hearing seems to be slowly improving. I can hear my fingers rubbing next to my left ear. The hearing in my left ear is probably about 30% compared to my right ear, but I do believe it's getting better.

No Vertigo since November 20th. Wooooooohoooooo!!
