I had menieres and MAV together. I don't suffer now but I am susceptible to MAV if I am not careful about diet.

But going back 8 - 9 years when I did have menieres I remember the anxiety of not knowing when the next vertigo and vomiting attack would happen. Not only that horrible experience but also not being able to plan anything with confidence.

I was very lucky I feel, because what helped me was serc which did reduce the amount of attacks that I had and more importantly having something I could rely upon when an attack was just about to start or just started. That was stemetil or the brand name Buccastem here in the UK. Very similar I believe to valium or ativan. Stemetil may be something that can be bought in the USA I don't know but worth a try. Its a small tablet that dissolves under the top lip between lip and gum and was great for me.

Importantly it gave me confidence that it would either stop the attack or at least shorten it, saving days of recovery time and being able to plan my life a lot better.

Jay - is Stemetil something that a doctor prescribes or can you buy it off the shelf at the pharmacy?

Just googled equivalent to stemetil in usa. In the uk the brand name is buccastem and can be bought at boots

I dont think they make brand name Compazine anymore but you can get the generic prochlorperazine. You will need a prescription from your Dr for it though. An OTC thought would be meclizine (Antivert) Have you ever tried Meclizine? It is available OTC and it works really well in Meniere's and for vertigo. I take it for motion sickness and it works awesome for that. I have known of patients who take it for Meniere's with very good results. I get mine at Walmart (Rugby is the manufacturer) but you have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter-they dont keep it on the shelf. It comes in 12.5mg and 25 mg if I remember right. I think there is 100 in the 25mg bottle I get and it costs between $5-$10 US dollars.

    Thanks, Jaypr,
I was just curious as my husband is in the UK right now and if it was easily available, I thought he could pick up some stemetil for me. I am not a big fan of Meclizine. It makes me very groggy and feel icky. Thanks again for your thoughts.
