Apparently I have had MD for a while but only recently did the vertigo get to the point where I saw a doctor. I have had a constant high pitched whine in both ears all my life but in the last month it feels like a family of cicadas have taken up residence in my left ear. Sometimes it is just 2 or 3 clicks.... then I get a stream of them lasting 10 to 20 seconds and when they stop my head spins and I get a pressure in my head. Even lying or sitting at times I would swear I am walking on the ocean or in a boat with no stabiliser. I've noticed a loss of hearing, a dullness in my left ear. Having the tv or heater on makes it hard sometimes to hear what my daughters are saying. I grew up on a low salt diet. My mum never cooked with salt, in fact the original packet of salt I bought when I moved out of home in 1986, I still have and it is 3/4s full! Caffeine gives me migraines, so I don't drink coffee or eat dark chocolate. Milk choc can trigger one too if I have too much. I do drink diet coke but not gallons of the stuff. Both of my daughters are type 1 diabetic so food is carefully scrutinised in this house. My doctor has started me on diuretics, I already take an SSRI for my depression and anxiety. She wants me to give this treatment a try for a month or so, but if I don't respond she will then toss me at a neurologist. Having put up with eczema all my life, and then finding a few years ago that I am also ASD-ADHD (the main cause of my depression etc), it just never seems to end. I gave up my very well paying job in the city to look after my elderly parents after my divorce, and now they have both passed on, trying to get back into work...this develops....! Does meditation help? Any particular exercise such as swimming or walking? Hints on books to check out would be welcome as I am an information junkie thanks to my autism. Thanks from the currently freezing southern coast of Australia.
Finally warming up in Illinois (USA). I see your a migraine sufferer. Have you read Buchholz, Heal Your Headache. He discusses the triggers you mentioned plus many more. Also, he discusses the migraine connection to vertigo. Not sure if your SSRI may not be a trigger. I recall it negates certain migraine meds effectiveness. Seems you have been thru alott of stress. Another trigger. Looks like your new mission is to focus on getting you healthy. BOL!
If I were you, if you have not already done it, is to read through the many posts on this site. The John from Ohio program has helped many sufferers. Look for your triggers. As mentioned, stress can be a big one. Look into simple meditation. Just 10 minutes a day can help. For the ear I have been using diuretics, allergy pill and some chinese herbal remedies for ear congestion. Both, so far, have really helped. Once the ear fullness goes down, keep doing the diuretics and other things. I have found that although the fullness can come on fairly rapidly it takes a lot longer to get rid of so I try to stay ahead of it.
You said that you've had MD for a while but were you ever officially diagnosed? It seems like you have a lot of conditions that can cause similar symptoms. You didn't mention what type of doctor you're currently seeing but if you aren't already, you should seek out a doctor who specializes in Meniere's such as a neurotologist.
