I had a severe dizzy spell a couple of weeks ago, I chalked it up to doing some yoga. Then I had another spell last Friday, also chalked it up to yoga. Then Saturday, I went to get out of bed and got quite dizzy...and then quite nauseous, but not sick. Went to the urgent care where the PA there said I had Meniere's. (Have had tinnitus for years.) I have always gotten a tiny bit dizzy when I bend at the waist, but I think that's pretty normal for most people (blood to head and all that). He prescribed the meclizine, I took 1 and have been fine since. So after reading several posts here, it appears I don't have it to near the severity that most describe here. My dizzy spells have always happened when going from laying on my back to moving in any direction. So I'm wondering a few things:

    1. Is it going to get worse? Is this just the beginning?
    2. I'm confused about the antiviral that treats shingles as working so well for some? I don't understand how that would help with Meniere's.
    3. Can I be diagnosed with Meniere's without doing more than asking a few questions?

Pretty worried about it since I ride horses and would be really worried about having a spell while riding...but it's my life and honestly wouldn't know how to deal with losing that.

Since it is triggered by movement, you should see a neurotologist (not an ENT) for help in determining what it is. Sounds like it might be BPPV.

Hey thanks for writing. I will have to agree with Scott on this. Definitely get a second opinion, I have never heard of someone being diagnosed like this.

    Get another opinion for sure.

Just another example of those "great" doctors that we have. Diagnosing someone with Meniere's based on an Urgent Care visit...lol
