Hi Everyone, I am 42 yo, male, high school teacher. I was just diagnosed with Meniere's Disease this morning. What should I expect? Thanks,
This disease is quite variable between cases and there is no one pattern of disease progression. Everyone is different, as you will see from reading this website. There are some people who have mild cases that are under good control and others who have had a lot of problems. This website tends to get a lot of problem cases because people who get relief don't come back until they have a problem again (like me). When I was diagnosed in 2008, I did not have vertigo attacks, just tinnitus, fullness, and hearing loss. Low salt diet and diuretics did not work for me. The otoneurologists were useless. The attacks started the following year and I started going downhill. Then I found this website and read about the John of Ohio (JOH) regimen, and gave it a try. That stopped my vertigo attacks for two years. When they started coming back, I found information about antiviral drugs and visited Dr. Gacek at UMass. The valacyclovir he prescribed stopped my attacks for another four years before things started deteriorating again. I have been struggling with mild attacks on and off for the past few months and am now trying to improve my overall health with sleep therapies so the antivirals can work better. If I had to do it all over again, I would have started both the JOH regimen and the valacyclovir immediately after diagnosis because they help a lot of people and are low risk. You can find out all about them on this website. Above all, it's important not to give up hope.
Sorry that you're here, but this is a good forum for help and hope. I tried everything except surgery and found that antivirals cured me. You can see my story in the link in my sig.
