No MAS caffeine for Jose. I gave it up for a week, tinnitus went away and I stopped at the QT for a long drive and grabbed a diet MT Dew and Diet Dr. Pepper and it came back. So now I just stop at Dunkin' and grab a delicious Large Decaf Latte with Skim milk. For the record I am/was a caffeine junkie and was addicted to it. In fact I blame that and a stressful job for my mm.
I haven't had a cup of coffee in so long I can't remember and I love the smell of it as everyone else here has some. Ah, I had some driving down to Georgia but other than keep me awake and alert it didn't affect my menieres. Still not going to risk it with me being unstable a few times during this other illness. It's not worth it but boy would I love a huge cup of morning coffee.
Giving up coffee was the worst part of this whole deal. I lived for a cup in the morning and at around 2:00 in the afternoon. So satisfying. Lately I've been sneaking little shots of coffee with cream on the weekend with no bad effects.
Some people refer to a morning cup of coffee as a morning Joe. My wife will tell you there is nothing better but it does not come in decaf, it the real thing and all its gusto. She loves it. The truth is its been a month so she may say otherwise, I told her to try the decaf it won't keep her up all night. Lol
We kind of epwent off the topic, "Caffeine." Let's take this to, "Casual Conversation." A new thread about caffeine and its effects is always important to people new to the site.
Very true and I was just getting ready to ask if you like cream with your morning Joe. No mas caffeine for me. I just realized that this week. Threw out all the soda in the house. Or could it be the Aspartame since I only drink diet sodas.
Caffeine does not seem to be a trigger for me. When first diagnosed I went cold turkey (and man I was a die-hard Diet Coke addict). Stayed without caffeine, any caffeine, for over 1 1/2 yrs. Then started to drink one here or there - no change. I was having the vertigo attacks and ear pressure/ringing with and without caffeine. SO might as well drink up!
Good onya Dogs...caffeine don't help a body one bit. Been a huge coffee drinker since I was 18. Boiled, perked, dripped..any way ya wanted to make it was fine by me. When I started running long-haul, I'd go through a 24 oz. cup a few times a day. Now, I mean real coffee, not that foo-foo lattechino stuff y'all get at Starbucks. : In 2006, a year after I was diagnosed with MM, I was still taking my drift boat out fishing on the river and doing 7-15 mile drifts. Aside from all the fishing gear, there were two things you could always find in my boat...a full thermos of hot, black coffee, and a pint of Yukon Jack. On those seriously chilly January mornings a cup of that mud with a shot (or 2) of the YJ would warm the cockles of anybodies heart.. 8) Then one day I had a massive vertigo attack while on the river with 2 clients...neither of which had the slightest idea of how to handle a set of 10' oars and a drift boat. Knew I'd drank too much coffee that morning (sans the Jack), and that it was the cause of the attack. I got the boat to the bank, crawled out on the beach and barfed for a couple hours, and the two guys just bank fished until my head finally quit spinning. The next week my wife started making the coffee with 50% decaf and 50% leaded. Week after that it was 75% decaf, and two weeks later I was off the caffeine and chugging decaf just like it was regular coffee. There is still a very small percentage of caffeine in decaf coffee, but I drink the stuff from the time I get up til I go to bed, so apparently it's not enough to bother me. I don't drink sodas anyway, but if I do get the itch I'll have a Hires Root Beer...it's naturally caffeine free.
I've been cutting back on my caffeine intake - Four coke zeros a day - and went cold turkey for awhile. It seemed to bring my symptoms down though in the last few weeks I've had one a day. Correlation is not causation but ... my symptoms seem to have picked up the last few weeks. I'm going to cut it out completely and see if that helps. The worst part of MD, outside of the symptoms, is trying to discern a cause or trigger that makes things worse. Not like you can go to the doc, get a blood test, and get a "this thing is worse compared to before". It's a lot of hit-and-miss though I'll be the first to state that if you find something that works for you to keep at it. I'd piss on a spark plug if it helped.
Thanks everybody for their input. Bea, yes I do remember you live cream in your coffee. I am just getting too old, I can no longer stir the pot like I used to but I sure can lick the spoon. "I don't always drink caffeine but when I do, I prefer Mt. Dew, stay thirsty my friends" ---- the most interesting man alive. I love those commercials. No Mas Caffeine for Jose.
