I must confess that I’ve been pretty bummed out regarding the tier in which my state has placed me to receive the vaccine. According to Alabama, and the CDC, very few individual medical conditions put you at high risk. This is due to lack of data on most medical conditions. Thus, despite the fact that multiple chronic and/or underlying medical conditions of any kind place you at higher risk(says cdc), and I have several, the US Department of Homeland Security (CISA section) recommends that individuals such as certain judges, district attorneys, and even clergy/ministers should receive the vaccine first. How many people even know a branch of cyber security recommended the tiers that were adopted by the cdc? I’m really happy, truly, to see so many here have received their vaccine. I’m disheartened to feel disenfranchised due to disability. If I had my former job, I’d have been vaccinated at the very beginning. I can’t help but wonder if I’ll eventually receive one of the less efficacious one-shot vaccines, and I’ll be told to be grateful. Afterall, the original goal was 50% efficacy, so anything above that is exceeding expectations! Of course, I WILL be grateful for any vaccine I receive. I just can’t shake the feeling that everyone in my same position(millions!)is being gaslighted in the hopes nobody will point out a glaring disparity in vaccine distribution: The most disabled, the sickest, are now least likely to receive the best vaccine. Hopefully, I’m absolutely wrong. Right now, I’m discouraged regarding the vaccine distribution in this country.
My wife and I (her 66yr old me 65yr old both diabetics) have been trying for a vaccine here in Texas for about two months (we're from Minnesota). We got on the list for our regular clinic in Minnesota and received a call that we could get the vaccine, but only had four day notice (1500 miles one way). We decided to head to Minnesota from the Gulf Coast of Texas. Got the first dose (Phizer) and the second dose is scheduled. We are going to 'move' (we full time RV) to Oklahoma so our next trip won't be so long. Like you, we were quite frustrated with the way the vaccine was distributed. Hang in there,it will get better eventually........
