My mom has been having vertigo attacks for some time now. She's also been having problems with one of her ears, especially hearing loss. Some of the things she's described to me regarding her ear are similar to what I've experienced. Her ear problems started (as far as a can tell) after a bout with cancer around five years ago. While undergoing chemo she contracted chicken pox. All of this has made me suspicious that she has Meniere's.

She went to an ENT a few years ago who pretty much said her ears were fine and recommended she get hearing aids (which she did). The vertigo is now becoming more frequent so she went to another ENT. He sent her for an ENG but they weren't able to trigger vertigo or dizziness. Based on this, his conclusion is that the vertigo is not being caused by her ear and he has suggested she see a neurologist.

How conclusive is an ENG in determining that there is a problem with the ear? I'm not fully convinced her ear isn't the problem.

For me, the doctors ordered the full vestibular/ENG testing to RULE OUT anything else. It is my understanding that there is no test to confirm Meniere's - but tests simply rule out any other cause.
