The usual protocol is to get the second gentamicin if any vertigo attacks happen (after 2 weeks following the first injection).

But the studies show a higher success rate after a second shot.

Assuming I’m still attack free when I see the doctor July 15... on one hand, let’s just do it while I’m there, I’ve waited so long.

On the other hand, my post gentamicin course has been difficult and complicated by ?gent induced positional vertigo so I’m scared of stirring up my inner ear unnecessarily.

But if I wait, (in the third hand ) and the vertigo returns say in a year I may face a long referral wait again. And if a second shot is a hurdle I have to jump over to convince her of a laby if needed...

    Opinions, experiences etc please!

AnneT tough call my friend. My experience...one gent shot vertigo free for 8 months. That being said I felt like crap no vertigo but very light headed and off balance every day. When I did have the first vertigo attack after 8 months I chose not to have another gent shot. I was so done with the MD BS!! I went for the laby and never regretted my decision. This is such a personal decision. I know you will make the right decision for you. Good luck!!

    What Red said !!!

I had 3 Gent shots and then went to a stronger chemical called Streptomycin for 3 shots...no vertigo but never felt normal. I knew then when I went to see Dr. Rauch and said Dr Rauch I am your 23 year old son with menieres and I ant my life back....he said Son take it out...2 weeks later I got the laby.
