There are! ::she says as she looks sideways at the orchid on her table, and now feels mildly disturbed:: ???
It's difficult to determine if given babies are trying to be all punchy, or trying to hug & say 'hi' despite their jabby jabby baby mantis forelegs.
, ::laughing:: Nathan, now that you brought it up I wanted to know, were they being punchy, saying, "hi," or...trying to eat one another? Doesn't the female do that after copulation? I don't know anything about baby mantis behavior.
If I remeber correctly, yes. Though there are many species of mantis. Death by decapitation, then if peckish, further cannibalism. Such matriarchy. Such oppression. Such sadness.
Shucks!::looking at sweet, innocent, unsuspecting, husband:: I KNEW I was going about this the wrong way! ;D ;D ;D
If I remember correctly, & if I type remember correctly… On this public holiday, all I want, or perhaps need, is more than 3 - 5 hours sleep. If by 2:00 am tonight I'm not asleep, can someone, anyone really, please just shoot me with a tranquilliser dart?
Happy belated Melbourne Cup Day, Nathan. I hope you got some shut eye. I’m not a cat person. This parrot cracks me up! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TbSLtCvILFE
Meaning of the colour blue around the world In Chinese culture, colors corresponded with the five primary elements, the directions, and the four seasons. Blue was associated with wood, east, and spring. Blue, blue-green, and green are sacred colors in Iran, where they symbolize paradise. In India, paintings of the god Krishna often depict him as having blue skin. In the United States, post office mailboxes are typically blue. In Mexico, blue is the color of mourning. In Aztec culture, blue symbolized sacrifice. In Greece, the color blue is believed to ward off “the evil eye.” Those who believe in this Greek superstition often wear a blue charm necklace or blue bracelet for protection.
I think whoever made that list was having a bit of a poke at the U.S. I can't speak for the rest of the West but as an American, for us, blue has always symbolized happiness, hope, action and boyhood. Also the sky itself is blue and the sky is American.
It’s Veterans Day here starting in just a few minutes. If I understand correctly, the US MEMORIAL Day is roughly equivalent to Canada’s and Australia’s Remembrance Day. The US Veterans Day is a day to show appreciation to current and past members of all branches of military service who are living. Memorial Day honors the deceased. In honor of the day, I found this quote: “The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." -- President George Washington
Yes, Autumn, we remember the dead and their sacrifice. Lest we forget. Tough day here. My dad was POW in WWII. Remembrance Day was never pleasant.
You need to get out more! You can have your American sky, but you really should see the skies in other countries. The sky in Tuscany an hour before sunset would take your breath away. The sunset in Egypt on the Nile with the palm tree silhouettes is spectacular. The Aurora Borealis skies in Canada, Norway, etc are beautiful. Enjoy your American skies, but expand your horizon. You’re missing out. This morning as the sun came up our skies are vanilla again today. Now the fog is rolling in. It’s going to be a good day!
I just saw my grandfather’s 95-year-old friend. One of the sweetest men I know. He derives great pleasure from having liberated 14 French villages. He’d say, “sometimes the coffee was still warm,” from the Germans having just left. Living with veterans can be...difficult for lack of a better word, even when you are extremely proud and grateful for what the good ones have done. My father was in Vietnam and had PTSD. My husband is a disabled veteran, but I’m extremely proud of him. He gets to do anything he wants today, and I’m spoiling him rotten.
