Hello, new member. I've just been diagnosed with Meniere's, after 6 long years suffering with the sudden (< 6 months) hearing loss in one ear, and the tinnitus and then pulsatile tinnitus (when you can feel/hear your pulse in the affected ear.) While I am relieved to have a "thing" to call it, I am now going through the steps to see if it can be resolved. To note: Beginning in 2019 to today I lost 80 pounds, so practically no salt, and zero caffene. The vertigo began a few months after the ringing began. Strong sense of the world tilting---like a fool, I drove home---no idea how I made it. Eply maneuvers worked that time, I ended up vomiting. I was sweating and unable to stand. I began wearing hearing aids and the ENT office gives me a damn hearing test each tine I go. I had series of MRI's that showed nothing. I was given Meclizine to take prn and it does seem to work, until last December. I had a few bouts of vertigo some lasted seconds, some longer, mild to moderate. My ENT office didn't take me seriously at first, but in December 2023 I dropped to the floor twice in two weeks. Very sudden, VERY strong vertigo that I could not prepare for. If I had been driving, I would have crashed. Not good. My ENT APRN discussed head and neck exercises, but I already do yoga at home 3 times a week. So now I am the process I assume it takes to get to a resolution. Of course I want to see a specialist, but my PCP won't just refer me. I have started a diuretic, Acetazolamide. The next step per my doc is adding Nortriptyline. New thing: sone vertigo is mild, disorienting, fades in and out but lasts all day. Could that be a "positive" of the diuretic? Sorry so long! My questions is how many steps on average have most people here taken and what was the ending they needed to fix it as best they can? I appreciate all the info here, even as some of it is older! Information is knowledge and knowledge is power.
Well, you've come to the right place. Just read through the threads on this forum and you will find many steps to try to quell the beast: JOH anti-virals diet Different things work for different people and at different times in the journey I don't think you will find very many positive reviews for your current low salt and/or a diuretic. They don't even seem reasonable or healthy to me. I have had success over the years with anti-virals and currently having great success with Keto diet. It is possible that any of these steps only bring temporary relief, but that is better than no relief at all. Good luck, keep reading.
Thank you very much! I have been reading , several hours last night! I really understand that different people have different results, I was a health care worker for 36 years and it follows that no two people are alike. I appreciate the reply.
