start with a low dose the regular amount is 25 mg you can try half of that to start if you want to see how it affects you then ease up to 25 mg. 50 mg will most likely put you to sleep.

since you don't have vertigo but imbalance from MAV (silent migraines) People take Benadryl for that too.

This is for any type of migraine
Preventive: This type of treatment is considered if a migraineur has more than 1 migraine per week. The goal is to lessen the frequency and severity of the migraine attacks. Medication to prevent a migraine can be taken daily. Preventive treatment medications include the following:
•Medications used to treat high blood pressure - Beta-blockers (propranolol [Inderal]), calcium channel blockers (verapamil [Covera])
•Antidepressants - Amitriptyline (Elavil), nortriptyline (Pamelor)
•Antiseizure medications - Gabapentin (Neurontin), valproic acid (Depakote), topiramate (Topamax)
•Some antihistamines and anti-allergy drugs, including diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and cyproheptadine (Periactin)

Thanks Vicki--I will try this! I thought Benadryl only came in capsule form--paid no attention to dosage. So, does it come in tablets too or is my memory failing me (what's new? ) LOL And, wondering, since I have A-fib, and take a medication for that as well as another b/p med. if it's safe for me to take? I can ask the pharmacist of course. Will do that next trip to the store--soon. And, will definitely take at night. Sure don't need to feel 'more sleepy' than I do already !

Benadryl comes in liquid, and capsules I am not sure about tablets.
Definitely ask your Dr or pharmacist about that.

Good luck I hope this gives you some relief!

Reading this thread over and started back at the beginning.

You know what? It sounds almost like a mini panic attack to me. If your heart is racing, you feel like you can't breathe or are breathing too heavy, this may also be something to look into.

As far as Meds go, I will often take 2 Benedryl at night because it does make you sleepy. Even the generic is fine and cheaper, ask your pharmacist. As far as that panicky feeling, my psychiatrist gives me Klonipin. Sometimes it'll make me sleep, but usually only 2 hours and then I feel so much better.

It's another effect MENIERES can have on some of us and is worth looking into.

Also, I have allergies and when I take the Benedryl at night, I don't wake up stuffy or with that post nasal drip.

I know this doesn't address your other symptoms, but reading the first post it just popped in my head.

Well, I haven't had any panic 'attacks' but do have anxiety due to all this and that is the reason for the Xanax. I have never had allergy problems including sinus issues. But--I've heard many here take Klonopin for anxiety--in place of Xanax. I may try that one day--not now while taking the Xanax. Yes, many of us do suffer from anxiety--and some have attacks. No my heart isn't racing when this happens but does race from time to time--due to A-fib. I take meds for that too. And the only time I have ever been short winded with this is a couple of times during the night, waking from a bad dream--and then feel like I am 'needing air' to breathe easier. I turn on the fan and go back to sleep. Strange how this thing and med side effects can affect us! Thanks for you comments and suggestions :)
