    Hello everyone
I have been suffering from severely fluctuating hearing for 4 years.
I have tried all sorts of tips, and use acupuncture etc.
I have also tested my home for mold, cut out alcohol and coffee, and reduced salt. None of this helps. I still can't control it. The only trigger I can identify is the weather.

Does anyone here have the same symptoms and have been able to stabilize it? I would be grateful for any tips.

Next I will start taking lysine again in addition to the other supplements.

    Best regards

    Mountain Man

everybody is different, but I had fluctuating hearing, mostly heading toward deafness and some days of complete deafness. Then about 15 months ago I switched to a keto diet - meaning really as few carbs as possible, and problem almost solved. I drink coffee, eat salty nuts, eat mozerella cheese (no carbs), cream and coffee on my cereal etc. My good ear will go down a bit if I'm stressed out about something but comes back to its best level.

When I go to restaurants, I might order chicken wings, or cheese melt beef meal with no bun, that sort of thing.
No deserts, candies, bread, pasta rice etc. Used sureketo.com at first to learn.

Anyway, being deaf was REALLY scary, especially socially, so I don't find it hard to follow my diet completely, since it is working.

There is no means of stabilizing fluctuating hearing. Do you have Menieres Disease? This is one of the symptoms.

I have fluctuating hearing. Yesterday, in the morning, i noticed my hearing aid was too loud. I had taken advil several days in a row for muscle aches from a fall. It makes me wonder about inflammation. I also wonder about creeping fasting blood sugar which is now too high.In the past inhad cochlear hydrops with hearing loss in low frequencies but now it is in high frequencies and i fear cannot be recovered. I am deaf in the other ear from surgery long ago. When my hearing is especially bad somis my balance. This all came on me after exposure to a normal but strong scent someone was wearing and my hearing still reacts To perfumes etc. Sorry for the mumble of thoughts. Any similar experiences or suggestions welcome.

June!! A veteran of this forum. You are still dealing with this? Have you found any new help since Dr. Derebery retired? It's intriguing to me how the perfume has started such a chain reaction. I remember your first post regarding that and it is wild to see you are still struggling. Did some form of allergy develop? Are you ruling out a viral component to this? At least your cochlear hydrops has never progressed to Meniere's after all these 'many years'.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I know the situation well. I currently use 2 different hearing aids with several different programs to compensate for my hearing loss in the low frequencies. Sometimes it's too loud, sometimes too quiet. It's hell

I am also thinking about inflammation but still can't find the trigger although I have tried many things (deodorant, shampoo, mold etc).

    Hi Donamo,
I reduced my carbohydrate intake wherever possible. But I was traveling a lot for business and couldn't stick to it 100%. I heard almost normally for a week, but now it's worse again.

LOL - well, there might be some encouragement for you there! For me, it works and my hearing is so important I have almost no trouble sticking to it. The packaged Keto snacks are really quite tasty but I try to eat more natural things like nuts and cheese when possible.

The hardest part for me is breakfast. What do you eat for breakfast?

I know, breakfast was a problem at first because milk has carbs and I just want something quick in a bowl.

My wife makes this mixture and roasts pecans, walnuts, almonds, tigernut flakes coconut oil and cinnamon and I add a scoop of Catalina Crunch Keto cereal from Costco and a spoon or two of frozen blueberries. I put heavy cream on it (no carbs) but I found that a bit greasy so I make 70 ml of strong coffee the night before and put it in the fridge - add it to my cereal and it makes it really good! She makes up a big batch at a time in an Actifry.

However, just the Catalina Crunch Keto cereal with maybe some nuts thrown in would be fine. There are other Keto cereals available too but the Catalina Crunch is really good.

Hi, I was personally only recently diagnosed, but I was wondering if you have considered allergy testing? I have noticed hearing fluctuation flares with post nasal drip. I am a retired speech-language pathologist.

Hello Diana, thank you very much for your feedback. I do indeed have a runny or blocked nose from time to time. What type of allergy should I test for? Food?

Hi Mountain Man, When you see an allergist, they do a " full-panel" of allergy testing but I was wondering since you notice changes with the weather...possibly a pollen, mold or dust allergy. If you go in, the allergist will know what to test for in your region.

I too have post nasal drip and i know of another Meniere's person that does as well. After reading RubyGirl's excellent document Home - Spindoctor I have tried the DAO probiotics and the other DAO to be taken before a meal, which I only use at breakfast and I think I have some improvement with the annoying nose drip thing.

It's too early to know for sure but so far so good! You may want to give them a try.

I have fluctuating hearing loss also and the main trigger is allergies. Fragrance exposure is the biggest one for me, other chemical/VOC fumes, also eggs and dairy.

No, taking the DAO didn't make much of a difference, sigh.
