I had my first MS episode in the summer of 2011. It was quite dramatic and landed me in the ER. I was subsequently diagnosed with hydrops via VNG testing. I was told to go on a low salt diet and prescribed anti-nausea meds. I didn't have another episode until 2013: again ending up in the ER due to uncontrolled vomiting. Retirement began in 2014 and I moved to Oregon from Georgia. I was symptom free until the spring of 2015, when I noticed my right ear felt plugged. I hadn't put ear fullness together with MS yet, so I wasn't concerned about it. I had 10 attacks of MS in the summer of 2015. I went to my doctor and I was prescribed a diuretic and low salt diet. I found this site and realized I should ask my doctor for an anti-viral prescription. She referred me to an ENT , who refused the anti-viral approach and offered me SERC instead. It was a miserable summer. Thankfully, my symptoms abated when the rainy season came.
Life went back to normal for the winter, but the ear fullness (with corresponding hearing loss) returned in the spring(2016). This time, I was worried and my anxiety began to soar. Thankfully I had spent many evenings over the winter on this site and I had a lot of ideas. The one I latched onto,( I can't find it again on this site for some reason), was an article written by a guy who it turned out had a fungal infection which caused tonsillitis, which led to eustachian tube dysfunction. Once he cleared up the fungal infection in his tonsils , his eustachian tubes opened and his MS symptoms stopped.
I began paying attention to my tonsils. Sure enough my right tonsil, in particular , was inflamed and swollen. When I brought this to my doctors attention, she told me I had chronic rhinitis, and referred me to an allergy specialist to determine if it was allergic or non-allergic rhinitis. Turned out it was non-allergic. I was prescribed Fluticasone and Azelastine , and instructed to begin saline nasal rinsing (8 oz in each nostril, twice a day). It took about a month before my ears cleared and my tonsils began to shrink. I have had no further MS attacks. I am able to control the rhinitis inflammation with the sinus rinse regime alone in the rainy season. In spring and summer, I add Azelastine . I dropped the Fluticasone, as it caused me to lose my sense of smell. I would go back on it, however, if it were necessary to control the MS.
I am very grateful to this group for helping me to sort through the complicated information about MS. I hope my story may help someone else suffering from this awful disease.

This is only a semi- success story but anything that helps I'd like to share:
In 2010, I had weekly dizzy and throwing up spells when I was volunteering away from home. My mom has Menieres, so I was aware of what it might be. I stopped eating MSG and did not have an episode for 6 years. You have to be very careful because most restaurant food has msg and many packaged foods do. It's hidden under other names. You can research how to find hidden msg.
In 2016, I had another episode while pregnant. I started having more frequent episodes in early 2017. Horrible vertigo and violent throwing up for hours. I went to the ENT and they couldn't help much because I was nursing and didn't want to take Valium or diuretics. I'm now pregnant again and during this pregnancy it's been horrible: daily dizziness, attacks very often, not able to drive sometimes, etc. I went to a Naturopathic doctor and she recommended homeopathic medicine: Nux Vomica 30c 3 tablets at night and every 15 minutes during an attack and Pulsitilla 30c 3tablets in the morning. This was amazing and I feel like I have my life back. I still get dizzy sometimes but they really help. Now I'm on a higher dose of each, 200c. My Naturopathic Dr has herbal remedies that may help when I'm not pregnant. She is suggesting 3 possible causes: a long term infection, food intolerance, or nutritional deficiency. I previously had Lyme disease so she suggests getting tested for Lyme's, Epstein Barr virus, and mono. We are still in process as to finding the cause but my symptoms are greatly reduced with the homeopathics so I don't feel like an invalid anymore! I highly suggest going to a Naturopathic Doctor!

I'm glad that it helped you. I thought it was important to write these stories down as when people get better they move on. I hope your journey is moving forwards and you post here one day.

Where did you get the Gentamicin injections? Were they in your ear? How many do you get?

    Thank you,
    Paul
