    Hi John,
First, I would like to thank you for your time and your help with this mini research.

On 17.01.2025 I started your regiment but I think it’s an old version with the:
    -Lysine, Vinpocetin, Vit C,E, Ginkgo + Vit B complex (B5 and B6 100mg).

Let me know if my problem can be related to this regiment.

Yesterday before bed, I start to hear my blood flow in my left ear, like a pump that pulse it and you hear the fluid moving, not very loud but enough to hear it when is completely silence. ( Heart beat was ok 70bpm and 120/70 in normal range for me)

Today is still present , down there you can find a bit of my journey if you would like to have more information.

Beside this, I am under medical prescriptions :
    - Betahistine 24mg 4x per day;
    - Diamox 250mg 1x per day for 5 days with 2 days pause;( 5 per week)
    - I am taking prednisolone too but almost taper it out in 2 days.

    My journey:
On 06.11.2024 i woke up extremely dizzy but that’s all.
    On 07.11.2024 everything was normal.
On 08.11.2024 i woke up with the sensation of full ear and pressure on my left ear, hearing was a bit strange but nothing more.
On 09.11.2024 went to ENT asap, after audigrame he told me is SSHL because I have mild hearing loss on 250,500 and 1000Hz and put me under prednisolone for 5 days.
Everything went well, my hearing started to come back to almost normal (80%) but pressure was still there, had a mild pain behind head on my left side only, left side around the ear close to jaw it’s feels a bit numb comparing with right, but I was happy about my hearing restoring.
On 13.11.2024 thing went bad, I start to become very dizzy and to have some vertigo, like heavy but I managed to drive back home.
On 14.11.2024 vertigo calmed down almost 70% but still dizzy and hearing started to change again. Now low frequencies was back in normal range but 6000-8000Hz went in the moderate hearing loss+ my new friend tinnitus.
Went to another 2 ENTs, all with different opinions ( BPPV, Migraines Vestibular, etc). 3rd ENT said I probably have Meniere.

To shorten the story, now I have:
    - tinnitus around 7500-8000Hz , I don’t know how to scale it but it’s not very bad or I can manage to ignore it.
    - hearing is kind a improved a bit, 6000-8000Hz went to mild hearing.
    - vertigo is almost inexistent but I have some dizziness when move fast my head sideways(as I used to do before) but it’s very mild and manageable( before was extremely extremely bad)
    - sometimes tingling inside my ear.
    - Ear get plugged but pops back, sometimes hard during the day or sometimes right away.
    - Later, I developed a new “feature”, when I press in one point inside my left ear, my eyes move to right and when I release that point my eyes move back. My ENT suggest me to do another scanner, first CT and MRI was clean but I didn’t had this symptoms with the point where I press.

I suggest that you restrict yourself to just the lysine in the regimen. Leave the other regimen components on the shelf and each day take only the lysine.

Take 1000mg of lysine three times a day; once in the morning, before breakfast, again in mid or late afternoon, and a final dose just before going to bed. In each case, be sure to take the lysine at least 20 minutes before consuming any food; or, at least 2 hours after eating.

It has become clear that the lysine in the regimen is the most important, essential element. Give it a try; without any of the other listed regimen components.

I wonder if it's possible to link the magnesium, K2 and D3 that is used by JOH. Apologies if this has been linked elsewhere.

Not had a bad vertigo incident for over a year and a half but suffering from severe insomnia that appears to negatively impact my tinnitus. This link below appears to identify my symptoms

    https://academic.oup.com/sleep/article/46/Supplement_1/A385/7182108

looking to keep the vertigo at bay while trying to improve my tinnitus/sleep situation

    Thanks

    Hi John,

I've finally been able to get one of my doctors to prescribe antivirals. I get headaches from 1gm of Valacyclovir and Acyclovir has a lower risk of HA, so I'm trying them. Unfortunately, my doc felt a need to use the only U.S. study and is following Dr. Gacek's 3 for 3 wks, 2 for 3 wks, 1 for 3 wks. He will be a little flexible, but I plan to continue the Lysine, which hasn't worked so far. Should the Acyclovir also be taken on an empty stomach, for the best reaction?

Thank you for continuing to help others suffering from MD. Here's seriously hoping for some changes soon. It may be my only chance to try antivirals.

I'm not aware of any conflict of acyclovir with food. But, of course, for lysine to disable the herpes viruses that can cause Meniere's symptoms it must be taken at least 20 minutes before eating any food, or at least 2 hours after eating. If taken with food, the lysine is mixed with other amino acids in the food and is not absorbed sufficiently, purely, to disable herpes virus replication.

But, try the acyclovir away from food, as with lysine, and see if that improves its efficacy.

This is the magnesium I take; magnesium malate:
NOW Magnesium Malate Caps -- 180 Veg Capsules - Vitacost

It is available from other vendors.

I take a capsule of this three times a day; which totals 285mg of magnesium. If you lack magnesium in your diet, in foods, it would be best to take four of these capsules.

I prefer magnesium malate because this form of magnesium is easily absorbed by the body. Not so with the common magnesium oxide.

    Hi John

One more question. What time do you drop the D3 and the K2. With the first Magnesium capsule or the last?

Merely for convenience I take the first magnesium capsule along with my vitamins D-3 and K-2. But the vitamins circulate in the circulatory system through the entire day, so the ingestion timing is not important.

This sounds very similar to my start of symptoms. I’ve only heard a few people on these forums mention the pushing your finger in your ear and your eyes move to the right symptom. It’s called Hennebert’s sign, I believe.

If I open the pdf file in the first posting I will get the Updated – January 2023 version.
It still includes vinpocetine, but posting #40 from Sep 19, 2024 says vinpocetine is no longer included.
    What is correct?
I have difficulties here in Germany to find vinco minor / vinpocetin. One website describes that the approval for medicines containing vincopocetin has expired in Germany since 2006.
However, I was able to get the other ingridients including L-Lysine. :)

    Hello, thanks for replying.
I don’t know if we can continue here with the discussion but can I ask you more questions about this? I read a bit and it’s saying that it’s should appear on a CT Scanner, which I did on 24.01.2025 and the results was clean without any fistula or any anomalies.
What investigations and symptoms did you had?
Can we talk in private here via message?

I hv a question about the John of Ohio Regimen. I hv been on the regimen for 4 months and suddenly, I hv severe trouble with my stomach and diarrhea-SEVERE. Im not sure if it has anything to do with the supplements but wondered if anyone had experienced this issue? I feel like the regimen has been somewhat successful and I do not want to quit, but I can't live like this with constant diarrhea. Do ANY of the supplements cause stomach issues?

So we no longer need to take the MSM, Lemon Bioflavinoid or the CoQ10?

I have been on the original John of Ohio regimen but will update to the new version now that I have found it. Question however, is there anyone who has experience stomach issues like severe diarrhea on this regimen? I have been on the regimen 4 months and suddenly (the last 3 weeks) I have had severe diarrhea and stomach upset. Maybe changing to the updated regimen will help. Also I thought the Lemon Bioflavinoid was one of your most important supplements? Ive been using Lindberg Lemon Bioflavinoid.

Thank you John of Ohio for sharing your regimen with all of us and your response. I'M going to keep at it as I really feel like it might be starting to help me. Originally, my symptoms were worse but because you explained that possibility and we probably wouldnt see results for 4-6 mos, I continued on the program. I have started to feel better overall. May not be completely better but I feel improvement. Hope to see even more as I continue. Thanks again!
