What do,you do when a bad case of dizziness hits? I read an article that says to look at an object or a spot on the wall for a few min. ...put a cold rag orbicepack on your neck? Has anyone heard of these hints or others? There osca list of things somewhere , but I cannot find it on my computer...I saved it, but than lost it when ingot an iPad .

IF I catch it early enough I take a valium and lay down until it passes - usually a couple hours... If I DON'T and it turns into a full blown attack I put a bucket next to my bed and puke my guts out for a few hours and then sleep for a day..... not much you can do if it gets you before you can lay down.... with my vertigo there is no way for me to stop the spinning - looking at a fixed spot or holding onto a wall or putting a foot on the floor doesn't help. :(

Meclazine never worked for me.... even when I was taking it 3 x a day .. when I was starting to have an episode I could take up to 4 and nothing... so I just stopped taking them altogether -- Valium works better for me and makes me less drowsy....

Damndest thing about this disease.... just no magic bullet -- what works for one great may not work for another - that's why I love checking in on this group -- always getting new ideas to try.....

As soon as I feel an episode coming on, I take an allergy pill, a meclazine, go to the bathroom then lie down in the quietest, darkest places I can find. 'Bout all you can do.

i find that Meclazine does help me, so I keep it in my pocket all the time. That and an Ativan. If it's a mild attack, 1 or 2 Meclazine help. If it gets to be a bad one, I've taken up to 6.

When I was starting down the doctor route my GP asked about my symptoms and said, to paraphrase, that dizziness is a general sense of movement as your body is moving past where you think it is. Similar to being on a boat, walking on a trampoline, etc. Vertigo is when the room spins, the walls are moving, etc.

Not sure if that's the clinical definition but ... just passing it along.

For dizzy/off balance - I found that meclizine does help.

For full vertigo (room spinning for hours) - I have prescription for Ativan that I put under my tongue when the rooms starts to whirl. It will shorten the attack to 1 1/2-2 hrs usually. I have to...and I mean HAVE TO....keep my eyes open, closing my eyes makes it 1000x worse. I try to lay as still as possible, focusing on one spot. Any movement of my body or eyes makes it worse.
