Hello everyone, it's been since 2006 since I have had a on the floor serious episode with Menieres. I am everyday grateful that it has stayed at bay and thankful that this forum was around during that time to connect with others... So, here is my question... I will be traveling to Israel in May and part of the tour is getting into the Dead Sea... I am worried about the sodium and absorbtion - will this cause a problem with keeping Menieres away??? I wanted to find out if others had gotten into the Dead Sea and been fine. So far, I keep my sodium levels around 1500 mg give or take and drink 64 oz. of water a day to keep Menieres away. All advice is appreciated. thanks again !

I'm pretty sure getting in salt-water is very dehydrating. I **think** this wouldn't provoke menieres. I'm not positive.

That's what I am sadly thinking but thought I'd back up my assumptions by checking in with others who may have experienced soaking in the Dead Sea to have a better understanding of absorption via skin vs. drinking high sodium items... and if hydrating MORE that day would make a difference in getting in it or NOT? just so torn ----

I’d do it. How often do you get the chance, right? I don’t know your situation, though.

    Denise, you're thinking too hard...lol

The Dead Sea is salty, yes, but it's not so salty you're going to absorb a bunch of it.
After you swim, just wash off when you get the chance.

Was in Israel back in '99..swam in the Dead Sea as well as the Jordan River. Interesting
    people and interesting places.

I think part of my issue is worry/anxiety..... which does not help... but, I will probably get in it unless I hear of someone having a horrific experience from it.... thanks for the feedback! much appreciated. I'll let everyone know how it went by the end of May... .

I'm with Mike on this one, Denise. Don't let this disease control any more of your life than it demands. Keep well hydrated and go for it!

Usually during travelling, the one that bothered me the most was during the airplane take off/ landing. the sound of the engine is very loud to me. so I wear an earplug to help.

Denise, one of the few things that make me feel better and many occasions make me COMPLETELY forget that I have MD is when I'm in water and swimming. I haven't been to the Dead Sea yet but been to Salt Lake in Utah (nasty but I wanted to try it). The fact that the water has high salt content should not have any effect on you IMHO. Please let us know on this thread how did it go. - Wish you the best of luck! Shalom!
