I am using the generic valacyclovir, produced by Northstar. (Did not have good results the two times they filled with Mylan product). I am on the maintenance 1000mg (1/day) dose now. I was on the full 3x day for two months, then tapered to 2x day and now 1/day. Every blue moon need an extra if I feel off.

I am on the Northstar brand. I took the brand name Smith Glaxo Smithkline for a bit and I thought Northstar was comparable. I also took the Mylan brand and had severe stomach cramps as a side effect. And the Aurobindo brand where my vertigo definitely increased.

Did the brand name work for you? I'd go back to that, if so.

The sublingual drops were never suggested to me and i know nothing about them.

I started taking weekly shots in 2008 and took them weekly for 5 years. Then i moved to biweekly and now every third week. Dr D has suggested i may quit them this year. I am at a maintenance level. I never had more than a small reaction to the shots. (Years ago i took bee shots and did have an anaphalactic reaction so i know what you are talking about). I do take the shots in my family dr's office and wait about 20 minutes agterward just to be sure. Luckily i am retired and have time for that.

I think it took six months before i noticed improvement, perhaps a little less, but the thing is, the improvement was very gradual and continued year after year. My hearing went from highly distorted and 50 dcb loss in the lower ranges to normal in all but the highest ranges. It seemed to me that the antiviral corrected the distortion, the most awful symptom while the allergy shots did more to improve my hearing.

As to what kind of allergies, i really didnt consider myself highly allergic except to bees and mosquitos but i tested allergic to corn, milk, pollens, molds, dust, cats, horses ... You name it.

The brand name gave me the same results as Northstar. Some relief but I still have fullness and vertigo.
