I try to close my eyes
    Clear my mind
    Just listen
    To the wildflowers grow
    Such whispers on the breeze
    Don't come easy now
    Over all this noise

    Echo - Mandolin Orange

Switching paths abruptly yet again...Hailing from just down the road, this pair has my volte for bluegrass crossover group on the decade.

That Mandoline Orange song was nice. Are they worth looking into?

I like the lyrics you posted. They have meaning to you because of the tinnitus and hearing loss?

Staying with a backwoods feel. This is a cover of a Fleet Foxes song. These girls are sisters I think. It's said that no harmonizing sounds as good as DNA harmonizing.

The lyrics remind me of my longing to hike again. How I've lost touch with nature because of MM. Seeking answers from "experts" (shadowy figures indeed!) and only receiving misleading clues. My fear of growing bitter and alone and turning to drink again.

    Through the forest
    Down to your grave
    Where the birds wait
    And the tall grasses wave
    They do not
    Know you anymore

    Dear shadow alive and well
    How can the body die
    You tell me everything
    Anything
    True

In the town one morning I went
Staggering through premonitions of my death
I don't see anybody that dear to me

    I don't know what I have done
I'm turning myself to a demon

  3. No. That song is just...all I could think about is the recent article I read about Frankie Lymon. When that child’s voice breaks, I doubt the harmonizing will go well. Pupper, you know people here care about you, myself included. If I don’t get to turn bitter, and start drinking, you sure as h@ll aren’t allowed. This is me giving you a boot to the head, love. :-*

Pupper, mbg! Could you maybe switch genres, talk about different instruments, ANYTHING? I do believe it might be in order...and with that I give you:

Pup, nice link. Fleet Foxes is cool, I have a bit of their stuff but it doesn't get the rotation it deserves. I was introduced to Mandolin Orange last year at Merlefest which my wife and I volunteer photograph in exchange for all access backstage passes. They blew me away with their songwriting, harmonies and just general feel. Check out the Blindfaller and This Side of Jordan albums.

Fall- Florence and the Machine is a good band, she has an amazing voice, but unfortunately my job ruined them for me with their incessant repeated play of "Dog Days".

One of my favorite top 10 favorite live performances. For some weird reason I feel as though he's channeling Elvis here. Like, a spiritual passing of the batton.

Classic performance. My fondest memories of Bruce are riding up to Illinois with my mom circa 1986, or whenever Born In The USA came out. Cruising in the 1973 VW Bus with the 8 track blasting through 4 inch paper speakers and the windows down. Not a care in the world.

Ha, great scene. What's the deal with the bus? Were your parents free spirits?

They were more beatniks than anything. My grandfather was an early adopter of the VW, well before they were adopted by the hippie crowd. I guess the sentiment was passed down to my dad.

As the girls have grown up they've actually become quite the sensation.

    Leaving Emmylou in tears.

  11. Oh dear. In the video, those kids were BOTH girls? I thought the one on the right was a boy :-[

  12. I really like this sound, though I can’t indentify everything I’m hearing. Even the lyrics are intriguing :D I know little to nothing about trip hop, but this seems really calm compared to some of the other songs you’ve posted, Nathan. I didn’t know trip hop could be soothing? Maybe I might get some sleep if I listen to this...

    Feeling retrospective today.

Laura Hand and Jann Arden do good covers of this song.

  15. Boy, can I ever relate to that ugly duckling part. I just didn’t look right, for lack of better way of putting it, until the last decade. (Yes, weird, but true.) Mel, my loving mother was so concerned I wouldn’t get a date to the prom, and thus look bad, that I went to three. My husband’s known me his entire life. He didn’t, “notice” me until ten years ago. When I’ve asked him why he responds, “because you weren’t hot!” He’s not joking. On the plus side, I give him hell about it now, but it does hurt when you’ve experienced it, as you know it’s true, if you’re a realist...which I am. I guess I could hold it against him, but it’s human nature. People notice aesthetics, right or wrong. ::wait, on second thought going to chew him out now:: j/k ;)

Mel the following has nothing to do with you. I realize you just presented the song And I love the song.

Whoever made the video should be hung. The song is about being a lonely ugly duckling. So the videomaker pairs it with a beautiful girl. Totally missing the spirit of the song. It's like making a video about a song named "I Wish I Wasn't So Shy" and casting Jim Carrey.

Some things you just can't mix.

Like Rod Stewart singing "Some Guys Have All the Luck." OK, whatever you say, luckiest man on Earth.

And I hate how Pink always tries to act like she's just another homely girl. She loves to write lyrics about how she's "Not like those pretty girls." Who do you think you're fooling lady? WE CAN SEE YOU.

I love both the above artists, but gotta call BS on BS.

Never thought of that Pupper. I suppose until you understand that people can be made to feel unattractive even when they’re really not, you won’t get that aspect of the song.

Beauty is subjective. I couldn’t begin to get inside Pink’s head to know why she writes those songs. I wonder if she was made to feel ugly/worthless/unloveable so that when she looks in the mirror she doesn’t see what you see when you look at her.

I dunno. I can relate to those lyrics and I'm not considered ugly by most who know me.

Autumn, I have no words! Long after looks fade relationships that are built on the beauty that is inside of us will be the ones that last. Give him hell from me, too!

Zappa was one of the great polarizing figures in music! Sorry I disappointed you!
