And for the record, I don't believe that people who put in the work on their own mental disorders/diseases are more likely not to have them happen in the first place. Some mental illnesses come from immune system not working properly or perhaps a blood disorder. Look up bipolar and autoimmune together and see what kind of information comes up.

I personally have to take medication for the rest of my life to control the bipolar disorder I've been diagnosed with.

Depression does come with health problems no matter how hard we might try to stave it off. I wonder just how many doctors use medication to help people with their 'mental' issues all the while talking to them and bringing their issues to the light. I'd guess most of them. Sometimes talking it through is just not enough. Of course this is my own opinion. I already know the bipolar issue I have is immune related. Just as most of my illnesses are.

My freaky anxiety is settling down. Maybe it was the generic remeron, too high of a dose, more weather migraines, or having to think about menieres too much and a disappointing specialist appointment - or all of the above. After 8 days back on the pricey remeron 30 mg I'm starting to have some parts of the dAy feeling almost normal and able to eat.

Also discovered that some of my chest clenching sensation responds to antacids.

Holly - very good points. In some cases depression is genetic and person will be advised to be on medication for life. Also, depression stemming from mental or emotional issues (psychological) and left untreated can manifest into a physical condition. There are numerous ways to treat psychological either emotional or mental. Finding what works for one may not work always for the next. What works for you is important. Whatever path you choose (therapy - non medicine) I believe that you will find answers when the time is right and you are ready to absorb and hear. Also, maintaining proper levels of medication in the body is key to helping manage physical depression (et.al). This is a journey, one that you will find yourself not alone. There are others. Just please be careful when seeking guidance and instructions on how to deal with your issues or problems. I believe in following the heart, gut, and brain. Use your senses, keep the information that is valuable to you, discard the information or therapy treatments (non-medicine) that do not work. Physical depression also needs to be monitored. Keep a chart or notebook on your medication and never be afraid to research the medicines you are on. However, solid and reliable research is so very helpful, but please be careful of other's experiences and not scientific data.

God bless you dear girl...you are not alone.

Anne- I am glad your anxiety has lessened. Having MM can trigger anxiety in some people. I am glad you are eating and feeling better! Blessings. :)

Aladdin - thank you for your kind words. I did ask my doctor to reduce one of my medications to see how well I do. We tried it and it seems to be working just fine. I hate taking so many meds for all the different stuff I have. Anything less is good. I still have my ups and downs but not like they used to be - all over the place. :)

Some have noticed a huge difference between generic and name brand Remeron. I hope Titus sees your post or you can PM her and ask about her experience. She is extremely helpful.

Thanks, Aladdin and Intrepid. Yes, I've seen some of Titus' posts on Remeron.

This is probably the wrong place to post, but here I am. I get what I think of as migraines - pounding, fuzzy brain, slight nausea, sometimes now dysequilibrium, often with weather changes. I have Clonazepam for as needed use around the anxiety. I read some of the MAV posts and other places suggesting it is better/safer to use than getting into the daily Advil/Tylenol which may create rebound or Medication Induced Headaches. I've also been on Imovane (rhovane) for insomnia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. When I take the Clonazepam and some melatonin, I don't need the Imovane. Anyway, I guess I'm just thinking out loud, and seeing that Clonazepam is maybe giving me a 3 for the price of 1 deal here, and am wondering about others' experience with it in terms of side effects, good effects, addiction?

Also, I am finding "Heal Your Brain, Heal Your Life" an interesting and useful read around depression and anxiety issues.

Hope everyone is having a calm, happy day! Just keep breathing...

Hey Anne, when you get to a part in the book that works for you, will you share? I would love to hear how well it works. There's a device you need to use, right? I have a difficult time with books cuz the rapid eye movement makes me dizzy and any tape would be just frustrating with my hearing difficulty. Thanks lots, really. :)

I don't understand why reading on line seems to be ok most of the time. Sometimes the words kinda float or move around on the page so I have to quit for awhile but at least I can still get on the computer.

I really would appreciate your input though.

Does this poll show that 93.3% of the people on this forum have some mental condition?

none of the above 5 (6.7%)

    100% - 6.7% = 93.3%

to be this is still a shockingly high number, i wonder if the number for the whole forum is close to this one in which case this is not just a MD forum.

I suspect that the issue of mental conditions resonates strongly in people who suffer from them, so they are more apt to respond to this thread. That's why the number is so high. Though that's probably only part of the explanation.

I'm enjoying the book. I'll summarize his chapters on anxiety soon. He also addresses attention problems, depression, obsessive and defiant issues.

I'm not terribly surprised to see the numbers that are there. So many chronic illnesses comes with some type of depression or anxiety. I was kinda glad to see that a few people came on and voted that they have none of the types of illnesses listed. They may have had some problems at some point but have overcome them through self help or medications.

For the people who did vote for some type of disorder, I hope they are, at least, getting the feeling they are not alone in this and have a support group within this support group to let it out and talk about the issues that are wreaking havoc or at least have changed their lives. I hope this particular topic stays around for a while so people can talk about their problems. I know I've been grateful for it.

I agree with you Wino, like speaks to like.

Thanks for giving some input from the book when you can Anne. I'm sure those who come on this topic will appreciate it. :)

Holly - I am proud of you. I am so glad to see you talking and writing more about your thoughts and experiences. Thinking of you! Hang in there. You can and will get through this. When I was in Grad school or maybe under-graduate school one of my professors/doctors told me 'if you have one person who believes in you - you can accomplish what you set your mind to.'

    I believe in you Holly.

I've been real agitated and irritated today and I'm not sure why. I'm sitting here trying to figure it out so I can let it go. Maybe it's the pressure I'm feeling to do a few things before I'm actually ready to do them. Kinda like an "I'll do it in my own time, stop pushing me!" thing.
