Tullio phenomenom is dizziness induced by noise. http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/symptoms/tullio.html Drop Attacks - or Tumarkins Otolithic Crisis differs from a Vertigo attacks. It is best if you don't use them interchangeably as they mean entirely different things. To understand what a true Drop Attack is see this. http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/central/drop.html Dr. Hain has a lot of good information about vestibular disorders and disease, so look around that site for more information. Hyperacusis and Recruitment (hypersensitive to noise or sounds, depending on the hearing loss level) are problems that some Menierians have (not all, of course but some of us do). We see this term used frequently and it is necessary that we understand both. Hyperacusis network http://www.hyperacusis.net/ also tells about Recruitment. http://www.hyperacusis.net/hyperacusis/hyperacusis+or+recruitment/default.asp YOu will have one or the other - not usually both since the hearing level is what determines what you call it. Another good explanation of Recruitment here: http://www.hearinglosshelp.com/articles/recruitment.htm Some may find these links helpful in understanding why something is happening and if it is happening to you - you know that it is real and has a name. ??? ???
Still if I had my druthers, I'd rather have drop attacks every day (takes about 20 minutes to re-coop) instead of my one bout of Meniere's each month (vertigo 2 1/2 days then couple days to re-coop). DA's are bad, so far I haven't broken anything, but at least I can get up and go a little faster. That's just me.
i get both and have been rendered unconscious and choked on my own vomit - my da don't allow me just to get up and go they usually will trigger or suggest a not so promising day, week, or month
Thanks Joyce My husband has been fully diagnosed with Menieres (gets it from his Dad). My stepson recently has experienced some fainting & dizzy spells but his doctor hasn't sent him to a specialist. This gives me some other related conditions to mention to him. Hoepfully he will be properly diagnosed. A bit scary being able to just faint without warning. Milica
Nothing about this disease is fun. The drop attack was scarey enough but I hated the vertigo attacks which increased my own panic and probably made things worse. : Recruitment is my bigger problem now, but I am not complaining because I promised myself that if I could get rid of the vertigo attacks, I could live with the recruitment and tullio phenom. It's funny the priority we put on the different symptoms when they are happening. One thing is certain - we are not all cut from the same cookie cutter, so we are affected differently. As someone said to me - "You are unique, like everyone else." ??? ???
do you also have semicircular superior canal dehiscence? noise and pressure trigger rapid vertigo. Hearing internal sounds such as eyeball moving. Seeing stationery objects move - sigh hugs and prayers xoxo
Hi Aladdin, Noise and pressure trigger rapid vertigo with me but SCD was ruled out. I also find stationary objects moving often but I don't hear the internal sounds that you do. They've found that I tested positive for a fistula (which would explain the Tulio's) but they're not saying I actually have a fistula at this point. Whatever the cause, it's not much fun is it?!? :-\ Amethyst
