Howdy! I'm new to this forum and 3 weeks new to the world of Menieres! I had the Tinnitus and hearing loss in my right ear for the last year and a half. I got used to it, it wasn't horrible, it was like I was on an airplane. I recently had my very first vertigo attack, then another. That's when I found out that Menieres was even a thing.

This past Tuesday, around 4pm, my Tinnitus starting getting louder. By 5pm when I got to work it was so bad I had to go home. (I own the biz so that's tough). I literally cried all night long, total and complete meltdown! I was sure this would last forever and couldn't imagine my life like this. I used my sound machine and watched shows on my ipad which helped. I finally fell asleep but didn't have a resful night. The next morning I was actually afraid to turn off the sound machine in case it was still there, but thankfully it wasn't. It was back to the normal airplane noise. It was traumatic to say the least. At this point, I'd take the vertigo over what happen that night.

So what was that? Why did it happen? I don't really know. I had a great day (gym, horseback ride, barn chores). I was thinking some stress. I had actually lost one of my horses a couple weeks ago and was putting all his tack in storage. I hadn't really processsed his loss and it just made me super sad. Maybe it was the super loud noise of the storage (large container) doors closing?

I'd love to hear some of your stories about this Tinnitus Spike. How you dealt with it.

I hope it never does it again and if it does, please don't let it last forever!

Hello Flag girl. Some of my coping measures: online chess, listening to books, walking, watching informative YouTube videos and really ignoring tinnitus as I'm able. I used to be far more active, but with the dizziness, its hard to leave the house most days. At bedtime I listen to talk radio and books. Best of days to you

I have tinnitus in a dead ear (labyrinthectomy) and I have tinnitus in my “hearing” ear in two different tones as well as a pulsing tone. It sucks beyond belief but you do get used to it. By the way, I used to be a musician, so yeah, this disease really sucks. It is survivable tho. Hang in.

Thank you! This is all so new and I just worry about it getting worse and staying that way. I find when I'm out riding my horse I hardly hear it. ;) I actually own a gun range and am a firearms instructor. I'm likely done being in the range (indoor) and will stick to outdoor if I shoot at all.

I decided to eat some really bad food, I ate pizza all day to test what happens, YUP, a loud overdrive sound, kind of like a punctured speaker with static hit me hard for two days. Chai Tea, coffee, energy drinks these all beat me down.

My usual hi-pitch tone is always there, audiobooks while I fall asleep are a must for me, it helps me not focus on the squeal in my ears. I try like mad to eat an all natural plant based diet, which this time of year really sucks. Good luck I really hope the best for you.

You are brave to eat pizza all day! lol I do miss pizza! I found an app called OTO, it's helping a lot with the Tinnitus. I'm actually doing a carnivore diet, total opposite of you. I do know it helps with inflamation, so I'll give it a go!

I’m new here also and have menieres. I had my first vicious attack at my drs office of vertigo and vomiting for three hours. Was the worst experience I ever had. I went to a rude ENT who gave me a prescription for hearing aides and sent me home. It was depressing. I watched you tube videos and tried all the exercises they had. One helped with the humming in my ear. I would take a deep breath and Micmicked it and it toned it done. I am going to try the B5 and B 6 that BennyHill refers to. Hope it works. I am also deaf in my left ear from childhood. I need to save what hearing I have. Good luck

Worst spike I ever had was after a loud 2-night stand in a smoky honky-tonk in Texas City. Both ears ringing off the hooks for 3 days following. It would not stop - I had no recourse but to tough it out until it subsided back to "normal" for me.

For me, the tinnitus will always spike after any sort of stressful event - even the thought of stressful events causes stress - also after any significant detraction from daily attention to careful food and drink choices - i.e. caffeine, sodium, and/or alcohol over and above reasonable, subdued ranges.

To combat the spikes, I try to give my brain something else to focus on - working in the yard, puttering about in the garage, painting, or fishing works for me. The insistent ringing, banging, humming, machine like noises will usually subside within 20-30 minutes of paying attention to something else.

Good luck with it - and best wishes to all...!

Nope. Tinnitus is the work of the brain, which some theorize is the result of it not receiving the signals it was used to from damaged hearing.

So sorry to hear of your terrible experience. I to have suffered with Meniere’s in the past losing 90% of my hearing in my right ear. Your experience with ENT doctors who really don’t understand the disease or any type of treatment that may offer any help. I went through that as well. I wanted to rule out any other underlying issues that may have been causing the vertigo or dizziness and submitted to a CAT scan and an MRI both of which prove normal. I began the John Of Ohio regimen in January 2022 I have since had wonderful success with no issues vertigo/dizziness hearing in my right ear has returned to 90% level and I no longer use my hearing aids. Not sure if you have tried the John of Ohio regimen It may not work for you, but you have nothing to lose. Good luck!

Thank you! I am doing the valtrex protocol now and will hit the JOH after that. I will probably post about this, but I live at 7000 feet and spent 5 days at 1000 feet. I could feel my symptoms getting less as I was driving down and could hear better by the time I got to my destination. Drive was 2 hours. Time to move I think!

When I went to the ER with my first episode a in October, my viral load was very high. The MONO test was high and I also have Epstein Barr Virus. I read that the Valtrex protocol was helpful, so what the heck. I already had a bunch on hand from cold sores. Recovery of Hearing in Meniere's Disease after Antiviral Treatment - PubMed

I do feel better in general, but not sure if it's from this or from controlling sodium etc.
